Facing challenges such as aging populations, declining birthrates, and healthcare sustainability, the role of medical institutions has expanded from disease treatment to health promotion, cancer prevention, and community care. Recently, Da-An Maternity and Child Hospital in Tainan presented its progress in smart healthcare, six-cancer screening, and full-lifespan health care at the "Southern Taiwan Healthcare Sustainability and Deepened Health ESG Supply Chain Matching Forum." By integrating AI technology, cancer screening, and family health management, the hospital is creating an integrated care model that extends from maternal and child healthcare to multi-generational family care.

The forum was jointly organized by the 50 Net-Zero Solutions Alliance with several regional hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and ESG partners in southern Taiwan. It aims to connect medical, corporate, and nonprofit resources through cross-sector collaboration and supply chain matching to promote smart healthcare, health promotion, and sustainable healthcare development.

Having served the Tainan community for over 13 years, Da-An Maternity and Child Hospital has actively transformed in response to declining birthrates. Centered on women's health, the hospital established a Breast Center, installed digital mammography equipment, and recruited specialized radiologists to enhance breast cancer screening and diagnostic capacity. To date, it has assisted in diagnosing over 900 breast cancer patients and conducts more than 10,000 mammograms annually. Additionally, through a mobile mammography van, the hospital reaches underserved and rural communities, improving access to screening.

The hospital also actively supports the National Health Administration’s initiatives for six-cancer and B/C hepatitis screening. Its cervical smear test volume consistently ranks first in Tainan City. In recent years, it introduced low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), becoming one of the few maternity and child hospitals in Tainan and Kaohsiung capable of providing comprehensive six-cancer screening services. The goal is to improve cancer treatment outcomes through early detection and early intervention.

Beyond cancer prevention, Da-An Maternity and Child Hospital has extended its health services from maternal and child care to family care. Starting with maternal, infant, and child health, the hospital is gradually building a full-lifespan health management model encompassing “mothers, children, families, and three-generation households.” By integrating obstetrics and pediatrics resources and applying AI technology to extend health services into the community, the hospital is establishing a more robust family health support system.

In smart healthcare, the hospital plans to develop a “Six-Cancer Screening Portal Platform” for the Yun-Chia-Nan region, integrating cancer screening, follow-up for positive cases, and referral processes. This initiative aims to improve tracking efficiency and reduce patient waiting times for examinations and treatments. Simultaneously, AI is being introduced into administrative and clinical workflows—through data integration and analysis, test notifications, and remote health consultations—to enhance medical efficiency. The hospital also uses a breast cancer imaging database to assist physicians in image interpretation, strengthening diagnostic quality.

The hospital emphasizes that stable talent remains the foundation of smart healthcare development. Therefore, it continues to build a supportive workplace environment centered on the core values of “care, safety, responsibility, and professionalism,” prioritizing nurse retention. By using smart technologies to reduce administrative burdens on medical staff, the hospital enables professionals to dedicate more time to clinical care, thereby improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes.

Dr. Chen Sheng-Xian,院长 of Da-An Maternity and Child Hospital, stated: "Moving forward, we will continue deepening our efforts in cancer screening, smart healthcare, full-lifespan health care, and talent sustainability. Through cross-domain collaboration platforms, we aim to partner with medical institutions, nonprofits, local enterprises, and ESG partners to jointly advance health promotion, community care, and healthcare sustainability, building a new paradigm of health care that combines medical excellence, social responsibility, and sustainable governance."
