The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is set to launch a new domestic travel subsidy policy in 2026, with five major initiatives targeting weekday stays, transportation tickets, amusement parks, and corporate group tours. A key highlight is the weekday accommodation subsidy: travelers who stay two consecutive nights at a certified lodging facility from Sunday to Thursday (excluding public holidays) can receive up to NT$2,000 in discounts. When combined with the Birthday Stay Bonus, eligible guests can save up to NT$3,200.
In conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebrations, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) is launching a special travel subsidy for overseas compatriots returning to Taiwan. Those who enter Taiwan on or after August 1, 2026, complete entry and quarantine procedures, and participate in a domestic tour of at least three days and two nights can apply for a subsidy. The maximum is NT$3,000 for general itineraries, and NT$4,000 if the trip includes Hualien or Taitung counties.
Eligibility criteria include: - Entry into Taiwan on or after August 1, 2026, with completion of all required entry and quarantine procedures. - Registration at the OCAC's 'October Celebration Returning Overseas Compatriot Service Center' to obtain the 'October Celebration Compatriot Certificate' (the 'counterfoil' is required for subsidy claims). - Participation in one of the following: National Day evening gala, National Day ceremony, National Day fireworks, or a visit to an 'i-Overseas Card' designated store. - Completion of a 3-day/2-night domestic tour arranged by a qualified travel agency, with the original counterfoil presented for verification.
Applications must be submitted online via the 'October Celebration Event Portal.' Group registration opens July 10 and closes August 30; individual registration is open now through September 20.
The Tourism Bureau's five subsidy programs are as follows:
1. Weekday Accommodation Subsidy: Stay two consecutive nights (Sunday–Thursday, excluding holidays) at a certified lodging. First night: NT$800; second night: NT$1,200. Total: up to NT$2,000.
2. Birthday Stay Bonus: 1,000 birthday celebrants per month are randomly selected to receive a NT$1,200 accommodation voucher. Can be combined with weekday subsidies for a maximum savings of NT$3,200.
3. Amusement Park Free Admission: Present same-day or next-day accommodation receipt from a certified lodging to gain free entry to any of 26 designated parks across Taiwan, including Leofoo Village, Lihpao Land, and Farglory Ocean Park.
4. Taiwan PASS Weekday Edition: Choose between a 40% discount on a transportation pass (including HSR, MRT, and Taiwan Tourist Shuttle) or a NT$1,500 accommodation voucher. Limited to 20,000 sets each.
5. Corporate Employee Travel Subsidy: Companies organizing group tours of 30+ people for at least two days and one night (with no more than one holiday) can receive up to NT$20,000 per group. The organizing travel agency receives an additional NT$10,000 marketing incentive.
Local governments are also offering additional incentives: - Tainan City: 'Buy one, get one free' or 'third night free' on weekday stays; invoice registration enters participants into a draw for high-value prizes including appliances and a year-long hotel stay experience. - Pingtung County: Spend over NT$1,000 at a partner lodging and register your invoice for monthly draws worth up to NT$14 million, including cars and premium electronics. - Taitung County: Stay five consecutive nights at the same lodging for a NT$2,500 room discount; corporate incentive tours eligible for up to NT$45,000 in subsidies. - Kaohsiung City: Subsidies up to NT$10,000 per group for travel agencies organizing tours from Kaohsiung to Matsu, including direct flights to Nangan.
These initiatives aim to boost off-peak tourism, support local economies, and enhance travel experiences. Full details will be announced by official government channels.
