The sewer connection project for the back alleys of Daren Road and Dayong Road in Sanxia District has recently been completed, benefiting a total of 67 households. After the public briefing session, residents actively cooperated, completing the retreat of illegal constructions within just two months. The construction team from the New Taipei City Water Resources Bureau immediately moved in and finished the sewer connections in only one month. This project successfully transformed the alley environment through seamless cooperation between residents and the city government, showcasing a concrete achievement of public-private collaboration in municipal development.

Water Resources Bureau Director Song De-ren stated that this 60-meter-long alley received enthusiastic responses from residents right after the briefing meeting. Residents expressed they were fully prepared and immediately contacted contractors to begin demolition work once boundary positions were confirmed. Most of these illegal structures were originally used as kitchens or toilets. During demolition, residents not only endured disruptions to daily routines but also managed indoor renovations simultaneously. Yet, committed to thoroughly improving their living environment, everyone worked together, completing large-scale retreats of illegal buildings within just two months.

In response to such proactive participation, the Water Resources Bureau and engineering team maintained tight oversight of construction progress. As soon as space became available, crews seamlessly stepped in. Ultimately, the connection work was swiftly completed within one month, delivering outstanding results.

Resident Mr. Chen said, "As soon as we heard about the sewage project, neighbors were extremely excited. Everyone clearly understood the process and just wanted to cooperate quickly to get it done. Now seeing the results, all the hardship—living like in a construction site, with dust filling our homes every day—was absolutely worth it. The back alley is now super clean, the foul odors are gone, and we no longer need to call septic trucks. The environment feels so much fresher. We can now casually visit neighbors through the alley. This feeling is truly wonderful."

Director Song added that New Taipei City has been promoting sewer connections for over 20 years, accumulating more than 1.29 million household connections. Most citizens now have a high level of awareness regarding the policy. Although pre-construction resident-led removal of illegal structures inevitably causes temporary inconvenience, people generally look forward to faster sewer access and actively cooperate. The bureau's principle is clear: "As soon as construction space opens up in the back alleys, our team moves in immediately," ensuring seamless, rapid construction to return clean and spacious alleys to residents.

The Water Resources Bureau emphasized that advancing urban infrastructure requires joint efforts between government and citizens. This successful case proves that active civic participation can overcome any construction challenge. Moving forward, the bureau will not shy away from difficulties, continuing to revitalize every back alley, making clean and comfortable environments part of everyday life for New Taipei residents.
