LINE has officially announced that it will discontinue support for certain legacy versions of its app starting in early November 2026. Devices running LINE versions below the specified minimum requirements will no longer be able to send messages or access various services. Users are strongly advised to check their device's operating system and app version in advance to prevent communication disruptions.
Which LINE Versions Will No Longer Be Supported?
According to the latest guidelines from the LINE Support Center, the following older versions will be removed from support:
- iPhone / iPad (iOS/iPadOS): Versions earlier than LINE 14.6.3 - Android smartphones / tablets: Versions earlier than LINE 14.4.6
Affected Apple Devices: These iPhone Models May Be Phased Out
LINE states that iOS and iPadOS users must first upgrade their system to iOS 15.0 or later to be eligible to update the LINE app to version 14.6.3 or higher. According to Apple's official system compatibility list, iOS 15 is only supported on iPhone 6s and newer models. Therefore, older devices unable to upgrade to iOS 15 include:
- iPhone 6 - iPhone 6 Plus - iPhone 5s - iPhone 5c - iPhone 5 - And earlier iPhone models
Although these devices may currently run LINE without issues, they will lose the ability to send or receive messages after early November 2026 when the service discontinuation takes effect.
Minimum System Requirements and Actions for Android Users
For Android users, devices running Android 7.1.2 or earlier must upgrade to Android 8.0 or later to update the LINE app to version 14.4.6 or higher. If an older Android device cannot be upgraded due to hardware limitations, users may need to consider switching to a newer device that meets LINE's minimum operational requirements.
Apple Watch Users: Important watchOS Upgrade Requirements
Users who rely on Apple Watch for LINE messaging should also take note. If your Apple Watch is running watchOS 7.6.2 or earlier, you must complete all three of the following steps to continue using LINE on your watch:
- Upgrade the paired iPhone to iOS 15.0 or later - Upgrade the Apple Watch to watchOS 8.0 or later - Update the LINE app on the iPhone to version 14.6.3 or higher
Failure to meet these conditions will result in the loss of LINE functionality on the Apple Watch.
