To improve public convenience and increase parking space in Nantou City, Nantou County is advancing the 'Comprehensive Building Demolition and Reconstruction Plan.' The project includes rebuilding the comprehensive building, adding more office space, and planning a multi-level parking facility. By connecting the underground space to the lower levels of the county government building, departments currently scattered across different locations can be consolidated into a single operational center, making it more convenient for citizens to access government services.

The 22nd and 23rd extraordinary sessions of the 20th Nantou County Council opened today (4th). During the session, the Audit Office presented the '2025 Nantou County Final Budget Audit Report (including affiliated unit budgets and consolidated statements),' and the first reading of the three-reading meeting agenda was conducted.

In the ad hoc proposals, several councilors expressed concern about the demolition and reconstruction of the county government's comprehensive building. County Magistrate Hsu Shu-Hua explained that the comprehensive building was constructed after the 921 earthquake and has been in use since 2001 (Minguo Year 90), approximately 25 years. It is currently primarily used by the Social and Labor Bureau. Over the past two decades, changes in county departments, along with increased staffing and responsibilities, have led to insufficient office space. Some units are scattered across different buildings or floors, causing inconvenience for citizens. Additionally, some offices suffer from water leakage and mold, requiring annual repair budgets. These factors have led the county government to decide on rebuilding the comprehensive building.

Magistrate Hsu noted that parking around the county government is insufficient, causing difficulties for nearby residents and visitors. Initially, the county considered converting the flat parking lot in front of the comprehensive building into a multi-level parking structure to increase capacity. However, since annual repair budgets are required due to the building's aging condition, the county decided to incorporate the reconstruction into an integrated plan. The project will include rebuilding the building, constructing a new multi-level parking facility, and connecting the underground space between the comprehensive building and the main county building, with an estimated budget of approximately 2.27 billion TWD, aiming to create a more complete administrative zone. Once the new building is completed, all departments will be able to operate centrally, making it more convenient for residents to conduct official business. Details regarding the overall planning, space allocation, and cost estimates will be presented to the county council during the regular session.
