Kaohsiung City Councilor Lin Chih-Hung conducted a site inspection on the 3rd alongside Deputy Director Lo Chi-Yuan of the Kaohsiung City Parks Department at the 'Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop Children’s Playground,' set to officially open on the 8th. Councilor Lin personally rode the newly installed 'Pump Track (Wave Riding Course),' testing the riding path, surface quality, and overall safety to ensure optimal user experience. This initiative aims to provide citizens with a high-quality family recreation space that combines physical activity and relaxation.
Lin emphasized that the revitalization of the Taiwan Railways Kaohsiung Workshop has been one of his key priorities since taking office as a councilor. After proposing the concept in 2019, he led field inspections in 2020 as convener of the Council’s Special Park Task Force and pushed forward the project through formal inquiries in 2021. Ultimately, he secured nearly NT$300 million in funding, enabling the transformation of the site into a public space that preserves historical and cultural relics while integrating educational, leisure, and recreational functions.
Lin highlighted that since the approval of the urban planning amendment in February of last year, he has continuously monitored engineering plans and construction progress. He paid particular attention to the design of unique riding areas, incorporating feedback from local groups such as the Fengjia Junior High School bicycle team, ensuring the Pump Track became one of the park’s signature features.
Given recent frequent earthquakes and typhoons globally, Lin urged the city government to maintain rigorous assessments of structural safety, seismic resilience, and disaster preparedness. Many buildings in the park are restored existing structures, and solar photovoltaic systems are installed on rooftops, necessitating ongoing safety checks to protect both facilities and visitors.
He also expressed hope for stable weather conditions so that upon opening, residents can bring their families to enjoy the new children’s play equipment and dedicated cycling spaces, experiencing a fresh urban landmark that blends recreation, sports, and historical culture.
