Hsu Chia-ching, Chairperson of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, has been exposed for using public funds to travel abroad for leisure, including eating desserts overseas, and bringing her son to Dongsha Island. In response, Taiwan People's Party spokesperson Wu Huang-sheng stated that as a head of a government agency, Hsu not only abused public funds for personal enjoyment but also openly violated the "Act Governing the Avoidance of Interest Conflicts by Public Officials." Her repeated acts of mixing public and private interests and breaking the law have severely damaged governmental integrity. Wu criticized Hsu for her arrogance toward public opinion and disregard for legal discipline, asserting that she is no longer fit for office and must step down immediately, returning fairness and taxpayers' money to the people.
Wu pointed out that Hsu recently spent as much as 1.15 million New Taiwan dollars of public funds on a 26-day 'inspection tour' to Europe and America. Upon returning, she submitted only a five-page report resembling a mere expense log. When the Legislative Yuan legally requested documents for oversight, Hsu initially refused by claiming 'confidentiality,' but legislators later discovered that her hidden itinerary was filled with leisure activities such as eating French desserts and watching movies. He criticized that instead of showing remorse, Hsu repeatedly responded with arrogance toward oversight bodies. While ordinary citizens struggle with inflation and daily survival, senior officials are using hard-earned taxpayer money for global sightseeing and treating it as normal, completely ignoring public suffering.
Wu added that beyond wasting public funds, Hsu is also accused of abusing her privileges. To allow her son, who did not meet eligibility requirements, to join the state-organized 'Dongsha Ecological Experience Camp,' Hsu allegedly changed the application criteria herself, opening a backdoor. This not only turned valuable national public resources into a private 'free summer camp' but also placed immense psychological and physical pressure on unaware frontline civil servants who were forced to comply. After nearly a year of investigation, the Control Yuan has confirmed that Hsu violated the "Act Governing the Avoidance of Interest Conflicts by Public Officials" and is preparing to impose legal penalties.
Wu further expressed anger that Hsu’s first reaction to the penalty was not a sincere public apology but attempts to shift blame and feign ignorance. Her relentless waste of public funds externally and internal abuse of power to protect allies have completely destroyed public trust in government. He stated bluntly that those who repeatedly commit unjust acts will eventually collapse. A department head who is arrogant toward public opinion and dismissive of national laws has lost all legitimacy and moral grounding to remain in office. Lai Qing-te must take immediate and serious action to prevent privileges from further corrupting national integrity. The Taiwan People's Party strongly demands that Hsu stop clinging to power, immediately apologize to the public, and step down, refusing to allow arrogant officials to continue squandering the nation’s future.
