The race drew intense interest, with notable figures such as Guo Zhihui — founder of Toppo Group and former Minister of Economic Affairs under President Lai Qing-te — and Lin Hua-wei, former team manager of the Fubon Guardians and current Deputy Executive Director of the National Training Center, both expressing interest in the position.

However, just days before voting, Zhou Ling-wen, Deputy General Manager of CTBC Entertainment, announced her candidacy and ultimately won the election, surprising many observers.

In fact, Zhou Ling-wen is the daughter of Zhou Ping-de, a former National Assembly representative and political advisor to President Lee Teng-hui, who was a victim of the Kaohsiung Incident.
