The Chinese Taipei Baseball Association held its 14th First General Assembly and Joint Board of Directors and Supervisors Meeting on August 2, 2026, for leadership elections. The race drew intense interest, with notable figures such as Guo Zhihui — founder of Toppo Group and former Minister of Economic Affairs under President Lai Qing-te — and Lin Hua-wei, former team manager of the Fubon Guardians and current Deputy Executive Director of the National Training Center, both expressing interest in the position.
However, just days before voting, Zhou Ling-wen, Deputy General Manager of CTBC Entertainment, announced her candidacy and ultimately won the election, surprising many observers.
In fact, Zhou Ling-wen is the daughter of Zhou Ping-de, a former National Assembly representative and political advisor to President Lee Teng-hui, who was a victim of the Kaohsiung Incident. She has long been regarded as a political successor with deep ties to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). This article, originally published in issue 605 of Sinon News on October 11, 1998, features an interview with the then 31-year-old Zhou Ling-wen, reflecting on her decision to return to Kaohsiung to inherit her father's political legacy.
