The Republic of China Armed Forces' 'Han Kuang 42' live-force exercise officially commenced on the 5th. The Nangan Defense Battalion of the Matsu Defense Command mobilized its readiness units to conduct a critical infrastructure reinforcement drill. Equipped with CM21 armored personnel carriers and other military assets, troops rapidly maneuvered to tactical positions to verify real-combat engagement procedures and command-and-control mechanisms, enhancing the unit's operational responsiveness.
The Han Kuang 42 live exercise runs from the 5th to the 14th, spanning 10 days and 9 nights. It follows earlier phases including the 'Computer-Assisted Command Post Exercise' (war-gaming), 'Immediate Readiness Drill' (pre-enemy launch), and 'Joint Defense Drill' (post-enemy launch). Through continuous scenario-based training, the exercise aims to sharpen unit capabilities under realistic combat conditions. Exercise phases include combat deployment, force protection and preservation, joint anti-landing,纵深 defense, and protracted warfare.
To strengthen unit response capabilities, the Nangan Defense Battalion conducted a critical infrastructure reinforcement drill within its defense zone on the 5th. The scenario simulated a critical infrastructure facility being sabotaged by unknown individuals. Troops deployed in CM21 armored personnel carriers and other units immediately mobilized to the target area. Upon arrival, they first used drones to scout for enemy activity. Under the cover of CM21 armored vehicles, personnel conducted civilian evacuation drills. During the exercise, Matsu Defense Command personnel played the role of simulated enemy forces hiding within the facility, with smoke grenades and blank ammunition used to enhance realism. The goal was to build a comprehensive battlefield awareness among troops and strengthen the security of critical infrastructure through realistic training.
