The transportation network of Taipei and New Taipei is undergoing a major upgrade. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an and New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih recently visited the site to inspect the mainline dynamic testing of the Wanda-Zhonghe Line (Phase I of the Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin Line) and jointly boarded the test train. The overall construction progress of the entire line has now exceeded 85%, with the goal of official completion by 2027. Once operational, the travel time from Zhonghe Senior High School Station to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station will be drastically reduced from the current 38 minutes to just 14 minutes—saving commuters more than half their travel time.
Wanda-Zhonghe Line Construction Progress Exceeds 85% – Chiang Wan-an and Hou Yu-ih Take Test Train Ride for the First Time
Construction of Phase I of the Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin MRT Line is progressing smoothly, with overall progress surpassing 85%. Mainline dynamic testing officially commenced in May this year. Today, Taipei and New Taipei mayors Chiang Wan-an and Hou Yu-ih jointly rode the test train for the first time, traveling from Juguang Station (LG08A) to Liancheng-Jinhe Station (LG07). Democratic Progressive Party legislator Su Chiao-hui, Kuomintang legislator Chang Chih-lun, and several other cross-party lawmakers were also present to witness this significant milestone.
Hou Yu-ih stated that the Wanda-Zhonghe Line is the second ring of New Taipei City’s 'Four Rings, Eight Lines' strategy and is crucial for the city’s overall transportation network. Once completed as scheduled next year, it will significantly shorten the distance between the Taipei and New Taipei living zones and is expected to effectively alleviate the heavy passenger volume on the Ban-Nan Line, with an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 daily riders shifting to this new line.

1. [LG01 Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station]: Direct Connection to Red and Green Lines
As a core transfer hub in Taipei, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station allows direct access to Taipei Main Station and the Xinyi District (via the Tamsui-Xinyi Line/Red Line), or quick access to Ximending and Songshan (via the Songshan-Xindian Line/Green Line). This eliminates the previous commuting pain point for residents of Zhonghe and Yonghe, who had to transfer multiple times to reach central Taipei.
2. [LG06 Zhonghe Station]: Seamless Transfer to the Circular Line
This station will strongly connect with the existing MRT Circular Line’s Zhonghe Station. In the past, travel from Zhonghe and Yonghe to Banqiao or Xindian was often limited by terrain and congested surface roads. In the future, transferring via the Circular Line will easily open up the transportation corridor on the western side of New Taipei City.
Driving Urban Renewal in Old Districts and Achieving Multi-Core Development in Taipei and New Taipei
The Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems emphasized that the construction of the Wanda-Zhonghe Line will not only substantially reduce daily transportation and time costs for residents of Wanhua, Zhonghe, Yonghe, and Tucheng, but also, through rail-based economic development, drive renewal and transformation of surrounding old urban districts, further realizing the smart city vision of multi-core development across Taipei and New Taipei.
