Taiwan's stock market has recently experienced heightened volatility due to international geopolitical and economic variables, fluctuations in AI-related stocks, and shifting capital flows. As a result, many investors are shifting toward a 'collect cash first, reduce volatility' investment strategy. With the arrival of the August ETF dividend season, monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual dividend-paying ETFs are announcing payouts, drawing market attention to high-dividend, technology-focused, and AI-themed ETFs.
According to statistics, multiple ETFs have announced dividend information since August, with some products achieving annualized dividend yields exceeding 10%, creating a fresh wave of 'dividend collection' momentum amid volatile market conditions.
The competition among monthly dividend ETFs is intense, with high-yield products standing out. While most monthly dividend ETFs offer stable cash flow, their net asset values have shown significant price fluctuations amid the recent correction in the Taiwan stock market. Investors need to evaluate not only dividend yields but also net asset value and total return performance.
Among August's monthly dividend ETFs, FT Taiwan Sustainable High Dividend (00961) stands out the most, with an estimated distribution of NT$0.19 per unit. Based on the latest closing price of NT$12.92, this translates to an annualized yield of 17.6%. Its total return since the second half of the year has reached 3.78%, making it one of the few products that successfully combines strong dividend payouts with solid performance.
Meanwhile, Taishin AI Dividend Momentum (00962) distributed NT$0.16 per unit, achieving an annualized yield of approximately 13.3%. CTBC Growth High Dividend (00934) paid out NT$0.30 per unit, with an annualized yield of around 13.1%, indicating that AI, high dividends, and momentum-based stock selection remain dominant market themes.
Recently, actively managed ETFs have also entered the high-dividend arena. Products such as JPMorgan Taiwan Income (00401A) and Cathay Momentum High Dividend (00400A) have achieved annualized yields of 11.4% and 10.9%, respectively. However, their returns since the second half of the year remain negative, reflecting ongoing market correction pressures.
Quarterly dividend ETFs continue to attract investor interest, with semiconductor and high-dividend themes remaining focal points for capital. CTBC Key Semiconductor (00891) distributed NT$1.55 per unit. Based on a closing price of NT$33.72, its annualized yield reached a high of 18.4%. CTBC Small-Investor High-Value 30 (00894) paid out NT$2.05 per unit, achieving an annualized yield of 18.1%, both ranking among the top high-yield ETFs.
The widely recognized national ETF, Cathay Sustainable High Dividend (00878), distributed NT$1.01 per unit, with an annualized yield of approximately 12.4%. While not as eye-catching as some newer ETFs, it remains a key investment choice for retail investors due to its stable dividend history and large investor base.
Additionally, actively managed ETFs such as QY Taiwan Strong Fund (00982A) and Nikko Taiwan Select (00980A) have achieved annualized yields of 12.2% and 11.5%, respectively, indicating that active management strategies are gaining traction in the income-focused market.
Among semi-annual dividend ETFs, Cathay Taiwan Tech Leader (00881) led the pack with a distribution of NT$4.60 per unit, achieving an annualized yield of 18.1%—the highest among semi-annual products. QY Taiwan ESG Low-Carbon 50 (00923) distributed NT$3.05 per unit, with an annualized yield of approximately 15.1%. These products focus on technology and ESG themes.
Financial institutions caution that an ETF's dividend yield is influenced by component stock dividends, capital gains, and the smoothing mechanism of income equalization, and does not necessarily reflect actual profitability. If market volatility persists, ETF net asset values may still decline.
Especially with recent increased volatility in AI-related stocks, high-dividend ETFs face pressure from portfolio rebalancing and capital rotation. Investors whose primary goal is 'generating cash flow' should focus on dividend stability and long-term total returns rather than simply chasing high annualized yields.
