To be honest, having lived in Taipei for over fifty years, I have never eaten at Dongfa Hao Mianxian, located at No. 143, Raohe Street, Songshan District, Taipei City. However, I won’t leave a negative review because of this, nor do I encourage anyone else to do so. There’s simply no need.
Regardless of the industry, running a business is about 'building good relationships and welcoming countless customers.' Everyone who walks through the door is a guest. Yet, the recent actions taken by 'Dongfa Hao Mianxian' completely lack the basic decency, sincerity, and respect that should guide human conduct.
First, if the operators of 'Dongfa Hao Mianxian' truly disliked Chiang Wan-an, why did they invite him to sign the wall inside the shop on October 7, 2022? And after he signed, why cover it with a menu? Judging from the marks on the wall, this concealment has likely lasted for over a year.
Everyone has the freedom to express their likes and dislikes. But if you genuinely dislike a political figure, you could have shown integrity by politely declining the signature request in the first place. Once you allow someone to sign your wall, only to later perform such petty acts, you’re not just disrespecting the person who signed—you’re also disrespecting yourself.
Next, fine—you covered Chiang Wan-an’s signature with a menu. But when Shen Po-yang arrived with a large group and the owner enthusiastically invited him to sign the wall too, that’s understandable. After all, it’s business. Building goodwill can’t be criticized.
However, while proudly shouting 'Cover the card! Cover the card!', you then publicly lifted the menu to reveal Chiang Wan-an’s signature—a signature you had hidden for years—and allowed media to photograph it, as if boasting to Shen Po-yang. This act of publicly humiliating Chiang Wan-an to flatter Shen Po-yang radiates nothing but malice.
You, the owner of 'Dongfa Hao Mianxian,' lit the fire yourself. Then, when online backlash and one-star review campaigns erupted, you panicked and painted over both signatures with white paint—hoping the incident would quietly fade away like ripples vanishing from water?
Do you really think the world works that smoothly?
What you should have done was remove the menu covering Chiang Wan-an’s signature and proudly display both Chiang’s and Shen’s autographs side by side on the wall.
But now, it’s too late. The signatures painted over in white will never return.
Everyone bears the consequences of their own actions. In any case, 'Dongfa Hao Mianxian' has certainly gained massive attention and visibility these past few days. Whether this is good or bad is up to you. But this attitude—wanting to stir drama and curry favor, yet lacking the courage to face the consequences—is truly disgraceful. Deeply, deeply disgraceful.
