As summer vacation enters its final stretch, families in search of weekend activities can look forward to Taichung City Government’s comprehensive lineup of family-oriented events under the theme 'Summer Family Energy-Release Guide.' From mountain hikes and cycling adventures to hot air balloon festivals and open-air film screenings, the city is offering a dynamic mix of sports, tourism, and leisure experiences.

The highlight is the '2026 Taichung Bicycle Carnival,' hosted by the Taichung City Government Tourism Bureau, set to take place on August 29. The event kicks off at the Hercules Beetle Ecological Park in Dongshi District, guiding participants along the scenic 14.8-kilometer route of the Dongfeng Bicycle Greenway and Houpeng Iron Horse Trail. Cyclists will pass iconic landmarks such as the Zero Egg Platform, Hualiang Steel Bridge, and Tunnel No. 9—recognized as one of Taiwan’s most iconic cycling routes. The event welcomes families, casual riders, and cycling enthusiasts alike. In collaboration with the Tourism Administration’s Central Taiwan Scenic Area Management Office, a vibrant market and live performances will be held at the finish line at Houli Equestrian Park, combining nature, fitness, and mountain town tourism.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the 'I Am the Mountain King' program by the Scenic Area Management Office offers trail challenges where participants who complete designated routes can earn rewards. This initiative promotes physical activity, environmental education, and family bonding through nature exploration.

Meanwhile, the '2026 Taichung Shigang Hot Air Balloon Carnival' will light up the skies from August 22 to 24 at Tuchiu Sports Park. The event features the world’s only 'Mazu Temple Hot Air Balloon' from Taitung, making its debut flight in Taichung. Attendees can enjoy tethered balloon rides, music nights, nighttime light shows, food markets, and family-friendly activities, creating a dreamy summer spectacle in the mountain town.

Additionally, the '2026 Taichung Movie Fun-In Season,' organized by the Information Bureau, will tour all 29 districts of Taichung from June 26 to August 29, screening popular animated films for free. Every screening includes raffles for 32-inch LCD TVs and movie tickets, with outdoor venues offering 40-inch TVs. Opening and closing events feature grand prizes such as 70-inch TVs, Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, wireless projectors, and tablets—ensuring fun and rewards for all attendees.

The Tourism Bureau warmly invites families nationwide to visit Taichung before summer ends, enjoying quality time filled with recreation, nature, and shared memories.
