Spilling drinks or meals on a train ride can be stressful and messy. Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) has announced that starting August 1, 2026, a new onboard cleaning notification service will be fully deployed across its entire EMU3000 Tze-Chiang Express fleet. Passengers simply need to scan QR codes posted near the front and rear doors or restrooms using their smartphones, fill out a quick online form, and their request is instantly transmitted to onboard cleaning staff. This integration of digital technology and real-time response significantly enhances the efficiency of cabin cleanliness maintenance, delivering a more comfortable and hygienic rail travel experience.

What to do if you spill something? Three-step QR code scan for instant help

According to TRA’s service design, the reporting process is intuitive and simple. When passengers encounter a mess onboard an EMU3000 train, they can scan the visible QR code stickers using a smartphone. The system automatically opens a streamlined service form. After filling in the required details and submitting, the message is immediately sent to the cleaning crew’s mobile devices.

Upon receiving the alert, the onboard staff will promptly bring cleaning supplies and head to the passenger’s location to address the issue. This real-time response mechanism not only saves passengers the hassle of searching for staff but also prevents spills from spreading across the cabin floor, preserving comfort for other travelers.

Where are the QR code stickers located? Easily accessible at key points in the cabin

To ensure passengers can access the service anytime, TRA has placed QR code notice stickers at multiple strategic locations inside every EMU3000 Tze-Chiang Express car. These include the front and rear entrances of each carriage, making them visible during boarding, alighting, or moving through the train.

In addition to the door areas, TRA has also installed reporting barcodes inside men’s restrooms, women’s restrooms, multi-functional restrooms, and nursing rooms. Whether it’s a sudden spill near seats or an urgent need for restroom maintenance, passengers can quickly locate a nearby code and report the issue. This greatly improves the convenience and coverage of the reporting service. Many passengers have responded positively, saying, "This is really convenient," "Kudos to the cleaning staff," and "A true public benefit policy."

TRA emphasizes that maintaining a high-quality, comfortable travel environment requires cooperation between service providers and passengers. Going forward, the administration will continue to promote various smart service initiatives and encourages all EMU3000 Tze-Chiang Express riders to actively use this new cleaning notification service to co-create a safer, cleaner, and more reassuring travel experience.
