The Ocean Affairs Council held its 'Family Integration, Blue Ocean Joy' Father's Day and Family Day event today (7th). This year coincided with the Urban Resilience Air Defense Drill, so the exercise scenario was specially integrated into the event, allowing parents to accompany their children in experiencing actual evacuation procedures, making the family activity a combination of safety education and disaster awareness cultivation. OAC Chairperson Kuan Pi-Ling stated that resilience in daily life is social resilience, and defense awareness should take root in the family before extending to workplaces and society. The OAC noted that previous Family Days mainly focused on celebrating Father's Day and parent-child interaction. This year, due to the Urban Resilience Air Defense Drill, the event was specially combined with the drill to help children, under parental guidance, understand basic concepts such as remaining calm, following instructions, and evacuating when alarms sound—integrating safety education into everyday life. When the drill alarm sounded, participating families followed the guidance of protection staff along indoor evacuation routes to designated shelters. On-site personnel explained the drill’s purpose and key points in simple terms to children, helping them build correct disaster-preparedness concepts through hands-on participation and internalizing actions like 'follow adults, obey instructions, go to safe places' as natural responses to emergencies. Integrating urban resilience, safety education, inclusive coexistence, and marine sustainability into daily life. Kuan stated that beyond helping families better understand staff work environments, the Family Day aims to foster shared learning and establish a connected defense awareness between home and workplace. She believes urban resilience is not just a government policy but must be cultivated from the family level. Only when children develop the ability to calmly respond, protect themselves, and care for others from an early age can families become the foundation of social safety and resilience. The OAC stated it will continue promoting diverse family activities and employee care initiatives to help staff balance work and family life, while integrating values such as urban resilience, safety education, respect and inclusion, and marine sustainability into daily routines—ensuring the values of safety, companionship, and sustainability take root from the family outward.
