KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-chun, in an evening interview on the online program "Politics & Economy Without Censorship" on the 7th, directly stated regarding cross-strait relations and Taiwan's status: "Taiwan has never been independent, and Taiwan has never been a country." She emphasized that the current peace in Taiwan stems from the Republic of China (ROC) Constitution, not from Taiwan independence. She criticized the DPP's claim that "Taiwan is already independent, so there is no need for another independence referendum" as "self-deception" and even called it "nonsense."

When asked on the show to choose among "peaceful unification, forceful unification, peaceful independence, or forceful independence," Cheng responded that the most important task at this stage is to first establish a peaceful and stable framework across the strait, based on practical needs and the well-being of the people. If the status quo ever needs to change, she stressed, the method and direction should reflect the will of people on both sides.

Cheng stated she does not hold any particularly strong stance, which she considers a pragmatic attitude. She argued against limiting discussions to rigid options like unification or independence, which only create unnecessary conflict and division.

In response to host Peng Wen-cheng quoting a National Taiwan University student who claimed "Taiwan's current status is that of a peaceful independent entity," Cheng countered that Taiwan's current peace "comes from the ROC Constitution, not from Taiwan independence."

She further warned that if Taiwan were to truly pursue independence, "everything you currently enjoy, including peace, would instantly vanish." Therefore, she believes viewing Taiwan's current peace as a result of independence is "putting the cart before the horse and fundamentally backwards."

Cheng reiterated, "The current status is not Taiwan's independence. Taiwan has never been independent, nor has it ever been a country." She challenged, "Would the DPP dare to initiate a Taiwan independence referendum?" and answered herself: "No, they wouldn't."

Regarding the DPP's argument that "Taiwan is already independent, so no further referendum is needed," Cheng criticized it as "self-deception" and "the rhetoric of street thugs," reiterating that such claims are "utter nonsense."
