According to the July political poll by the Beautiful Island Electronic Report, public opinion on the responsibility for the Middle Oil Cancer case is divided: 28.7% believe the central government is responsible, 23% blame the problematic oil company, 22.6% hold both the company and central/local governments responsible, and 16.5% believe local governments are to blame. In response, Wu Tzu-Chia, chairman of the Beautiful Island Electronic Report, analyzed on the Wind Media program 'Xia Ban Han Ni Liao' that despite the all-out confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties, the Middle Oil Cancer case has not had a major impact on the DPP's election prospects.

Wu Tzu-Chia pointed out that the public's attribution of responsibility to the central and local governments (28.7% and 16.5% respectively) is why many people responded to the July Keto rally. A closer look at the poll results shows that the opposition parties' stance is consistent, all blaming the central government. However, the current public stance is 'central government takes two hits, local government takes one,' which has blurred the focus.

Regarding the KMT's 725 Keto 'Anti-Poison Taiwan' rally, 32.8% of the public thought it was successful, 38.5% thought it was not, and 28.7% did not give a clear answer. Wu Tzu-Chia noted that the 'not successful' opinion leads by only 6%, showing the DPP's solid base. However, the 28.7% of respondents who did not express an opinion will affect local elections.

Wu Tzu-Chia analyzed that the local elections are now in the 'middle to late stage,' but the Middle Oil Cancer case has not had a major impact on the DPP's election prospects. President Lai Ching-te's strategy against the opposition is 'conflict, conflict, and more conflict.' The DPP government is fully attacking the KMT and making the People's Party disappear from the battlefield, ultimately solidifying both sides' bases.

Wu Tzu-Chia stated that in the case of the Middle Oil Cancer, the central government should apologize in any case, but for election purposes, it cannot. Lai Ching-te cannot show weakness but must 'show strength,' leading to the current '50-50' public opinion, while the People's Party is even weaker.

This poll was commissioned by the Beautiful Island Electronic Report to design and analyze the questionnaire by Dr. Chang You-Zong, Dean of the College of Social Sciences at National Taiwan University, and conducted by the Trend Opinion Survey Company through telephone interviews. The survey period was from July 28 to 30, 2026, covering 22 counties and cities nationwide, targeting registered voters aged 20 and above. The survey method used both landline and mobile phones, with 1,200 successful interviews (840 landline, 360 mobile). The maximum sampling error at a 95% confidence level was ±2.83%.
