During the pandemic, Tzu Chi attempted to purchase vaccines but was defrauded of 1 billion NT dollars by brokers. Former Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung had warned at the time that it was 'likely a scam,' but was attacked by the Pan-Blue and Taiwan People's Party for 'blocking vaccines.' Ko Wen-je mocked, 'When so many people believed he blocked the vaccines, could it be that everyone else was wrong and only he was right?' The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has since demanded an apology. On the 9th, former Taiwan People's Party chair Ko Wen-je lashed out again, calling Chen's supporters 'son of a bitch' and urging the DPP not to treat the public like fools.

Chen recently stated that many during that time twisted the government's well-intentioned warnings into malicious accusations of obstruction, adding that 'those who made false claims should apologize to society.'

In response, Ko Wen-je said in an interview that during the pandemic, the DPP government passed an 880 billion NT dollar special budget, yet had no vaccines, no masks, and no rapid tests. 'If the government had the authority, why did it force Tzu Chi, Foxconn, and TSMC to go out and buy vaccines themselves?' he questioned.

Ko criticized further: 'The government had money and greater power to buy vaccines but chose not to. People were desperate, casualties began to rise, and it was only then that Terry Gou and Master Cheng Yen stepped in to secure vaccines. Now they turn around and mock Tzu Chi for being scammed. Anyone who says that is a son of a bitch.'

He added, 'If the government could have bought the vaccines itself, this whole issue wouldn't have arisen. They've said everything they wanted to say. The DPP must stop treating the entire population like idiots.'
