"Elections shouldn't turn out like this!" In response to claims made online yesterday (8th) by Lee Shu-hsia's camp that Su Chiao-hui "prevented a neighborhood chief from speaking," Su Chiao-hui once again appeared today (9th) alongside Jianhui Jian, neighborhood chief of Shulin Zhongshan Village. Jianhui personally recounted the interaction, emphasizing that they have known each other for over a decade and that Su's comment—"Don't speak for 20 minutes"—was merely a lighthearted joke between friends, which had been distorted. He stated bluntly, "Elections shouldn't become this kind of game. It's meaningless to distort the truth like this. Don't twist facts." He also openly endorsed Su Chiao-hui, urging that New Taipei welcome its "first female mayor" this year.
Following accusations by a council candidate from Lee Shu-hsia's camp alleging Su Chiao-hui prevented the neighborhood chief from speaking, Jianhui Jian clarified that it was simply a joke and that their long-standing relationship should not be misrepresented. Yesterday, a council candidate surnamed Deng from Lee Shu-hsia's camp claimed online that Su Chiao-hui prevented the neighborhood chief from speaking during an event, prompting Su to respond. Su immediately released footage from the event, showing her and Jianhui Jian joking and supporting each other on stage, emphasizing their more than ten-year friendship. She expressed dismay that a relaxed local interaction had been interpreted and twisted into a political attack, calling it "completely unnecessary."
Today, Su Chiao-hui and Jianhui Jian met again at a senior citizens' association event. Despite the controversy, Su courteously allowed Jianhui to speak first to the elders present, and their natural interaction created a relaxed atmosphere. Jianhui then took the microphone himself, directly addressing Lee Shu-hsia's camp, emphasizing that normal interpersonal interactions in local communities should not be distorted for electoral purposes.
Jianhui stated that he has known Su Chiao-hui for over a decade. During yesterday's event, Su warmly said to him: "Ah Hui, since you're local, say a few words to everyone first, but don't speak for 20 minutes, okay?" He explained that this was clearly a friendly joke between friends, and was dismayed that it had been interpreted as "Su Chiao-hui prevented the neighborhood chief from speaking."
"How could such a thing happen in the world?" Jianhui emphasized that while people naturally support different candidates, elections should not involve distorting facts. There's no need to turn normal local interactions into political attacks. "I think elections shouldn't turn out like this. It's meaningless. Don't twist the truth."
Jianhui also praised Su Chiao-hui's long-term commitment to the community. He noted that despite heavy rain and wind today, Su still attended the senior citizens' event, reflecting her consistent dedication. "If a mayor comes from here, it will be New Taipei's first female mayor from Shulin!"
Jianhui reiterated that he is an independent and does not want his statements to be twisted by any political side. Nevertheless, he publicly expressed his support for Su Chiao-hui. After wishing the elders a happy Father's Day, he declared: "Best wishes to Su Chiao-hui, our future mayor, and to all the council candidates—may you all win!"
From being accused of "preventing a neighborhood chief from speaking" to the chief himself appearing the next day to clarify and publicly endorse her, Su Chiao-hui's campaign stated that electoral competition should focus on policies and platforms, not on distorting local interactions to create division. They hope all campaigns will compete in a more positive manner, allowing New Taipei citizens to see genuine visions for city governance and make informed choices.
