Located at approximately kilometer 64 along Provincial Highway 14 (Puli-Wu Road) in Puli Township, Nantou County, Guanyin Falls has undergone significant restoration following severe typhoon damage and years of closure. Thanks to proactive disaster recovery and environmental improvements led by the Nantou County Government, the scenic area will officially reopen to the public on August 11. Guanyin Falls now offers a safer and more comprehensive recreational environment, inviting visitors nationwide to explore and experience a renewed chapter of waterside tourism.
According to the Nantou County Scenic Area Management Office, Guanyin Falls is renowned for its majestic waterfalls, tranquil stream valleys, and rich biodiversity. It was once a popular summer destination for water play and mountain recreation, cherished by countless visitors as a place of fond memories. However, repeated typhoons caused extensive damage, leading to prolonged closure and reconstruction.
To restore Guanyin Falls to its former glory, the county government successfully secured funding from the Executive Yuan Public Construction Commission and the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. Approximately NT$58 million was invested in disaster recovery and environmental upgrades, including rockfall protection, slope stabilization, trail improvements, elevated boardwalks, and green vegetated walls. These enhancements have significantly improved safety and visitor experience. Additionally, parking lots, public restrooms, and visitor service facilities have been renovated. The parking area is now managed externally and includes unmanned convenience kiosks to meet visitor needs.
The Puli Engineering Section of the Highway Bureau has also contributed by installing new traffic markings, pedestrian crossings, and directional signage along Highway 14, improving surrounding traffic flow.
The management office emphasized that the reopened Guanyin Falls preserves its original valley character. Elevated boardwalks and stepped trails have been designed to follow the natural terrain, guiding visitors gently along the stream and allowing them to immerse in the pure charm of nature. The park is also home to diverse ecological resources, serving as a vital habitat for butterflies and native plants. Through ecological tours and educational interpretation, visitors can learn about the interconnected natural environment of streams, forests, and butterflies. A variety of nectar plants have been planted along vegetated walls and boardwalks, with the hope that as vegetation matures, butterflies will return to the valley, continuing Puli’s unique butterfly ecological culture. As butterfly wings flutter once more and the sound of the falls echoes anew, Guanyin Falls will showcase distinctive seasonal beauty, offering visitors感动 and surprises throughout the year.
