Central Taiwan conducted its first-ever 'Urban Resilience Drill' at 2:30 PM today (10th), carrying out a mobile network slowdown simulation. At the designated time, residents across the region received emergency alerts on their smartphones. The message simulated a scenario in which domestic communication facilities were attacked by airstrikes, causing disruptions to mobile networks, and advised the public to immediately switch to fixed-line internet or indoor Wi-Fi if they needed online access.
Emergency Alert Message Content
The alert read: 'Urban Resilience (Air Defense) Drill Alert: Due to an airstrike on our communication facilities, mobile networks will be affected. If you require internet access, please switch to fixed-line or indoor Wi-Fi. For urgent needs, please prioritize calling 119 or 110 using a landline.'
This message emphasized maintaining emergency communication channels even under extreme conditions.
Pedestrian and Vehicle Control Measures
According to drill regulations, all pedestrian and vehicle movements were subject to full restrictions once the alert was issued. While Taichung Metro continued normal operations across all lines, passengers who disembarked were not allowed to leave the station freely. They were required to remain inside the station and follow guidance from station staff and metro police for evacuation and sheltering procedures.
Additionally, Taichung Metro recommended that passengers use physical credit cards or electronic ticketing cards (such as iPASS or EASYCARD) for smooth entry and exit through turnstiles.
