President Lai Qingde's proposed 'Taiwan's Shield' multi-layered air defense network was demonstrated during Han Kuang 42, as Air Force air defense units maneuvered missile launchers into tactical positions across greater Taipei. On the 11th, the Tien Kung III missile system was again deployed to a riverside park in the greater Taipei area, with radar units now equipped with drone protection nets—drawing direct lessons from the Russia-Ukraine war to prevent enemy drones from disabling radar systems and crippling the entire missile network.

On the second day of Han Kuang 42, Patriot and Tien Kung missile systems were deployed to tactical positions in greater Taipei, including the Dajia Riverside Park, before relocating the following day. As the exercise enters its phased resistance phase, Storm Media has again observed the Tien Kung III system redeployed to a riverside park, with eight missile vehicles in position.

To realize the 'Taiwan's Shield' concept, Air Force air defense units have adopted tactical deployments centered on greater Taipei as the political and economic core. Missile launchers are dispersed across various locations, oriented in multiple directions, aiming to create a wide-area air defense fire net to prevent enemy missiles from directly destroying key political and economic infrastructure.

'Taiwan's Shield' consists of the high-altitude Chiang Kung missile (70 km ceiling) as the first line of defense, followed by the Patriot PAC-3 MSE (45–60 km), and the Tien Kung III (45 km ceiling) to intercept high-value enemy aircraft. For mid-to-low altitudes, the Patriot PAC-3 (~24 km), land-launched Sky Sword II (~15 km), and Stinger missiles (~4 km) sequentially engage enemy cruise missiles, aircraft, helicopters, and drones.

Notably, the Tien Kung missile site in greater Taipei today featured a newly unveiled field mobile kitchen. Additionally, both the phased array radar and the missile launcher control boxes were fitted with drone protection nets—clearly reflecting lessons from the Russia-Ukraine war, where enemy attacks on radar systems have disabled entire air defense networks. This exercise serves as a live validation of drone defense measures.
