The Han Kuang Exercise No. 42 is currently in the phased resistance phase. On this day (11th), in the greater Taipei area, Storm Media conducted an on-site report revealing as many as 12 M109 self-propelled howitzers deployed at firing positions aimed at Red Beach in Taoyuan. Notably, this unit is the southern-based 564th Brigade, marking their first-ever cross-regional reinforcement to the greater Taipei area for central defense missions.
In this year's Han Kuang Exercise, all defense zones are conducting cross-regional reinforcement operations, with many southern forces conducting large-scale movements northward to defend the political and economic center. In a park within the greater Taipei area, Storm Media observed 12 M109 self-propelled howitzers. According to sources, the soldiers' armbands bore the characters 'Shao Kang,' identifying them as part of the 564th Brigade from Kaohsiung. On the first day of the exercise, this brigade conducted a 'self-mobility' operation, driving for 12 hours from Kaohsiung to the greater Taipei area, where they carried out dispersed deployments.
Moreover, this marks the first time the 564th Brigade has conducted cross-theater reinforcement. The unit has now been integrated into the Third Combat Zone's operational sequence. The scenario assumes that the central area will become the primary target of enemy attacks, necessitating the northward redeployment of large southern forces for central defense.
Notably, within the artillery positions, all M109 self-propelled howitzers were equipped with drone protection nets. This measure is influenced by the recent Russia-Ukraine war, where drones have been extensively used to attack armored vehicles. To prevent armored and artillery vehicles from becoming 'dartboards,' this year's Han Kuang Exercise has equipped all such vehicles with drone protection nets, one of the key verification items for this year.
