Families in Yunlin now have a new place to recharge! On August 11, Dou Nan Township in Yunlin County officially opened its first 'All-Age Inclusive Play Park,' revitalizing the idle space beneath the elevated section of Provincial Highway No. 78. The park incorporates the region’s unique 'sugar railway culture,' featuring eye-catching large-scale train-themed play equipment. Its biggest highlight lies in being located under an overpass, offering natural shade and ventilation—making it enjoyable regardless of scorching sun or rainy weather.
The sugar railway-themed play structures offer high-energy fun, complete with a traffic practice zone and full accessibility features.
Phase one of the Dou Nan All-Age Inclusive Play Park draws inspiration from the historical convergence of Taiwan Railways and Sugar Railways at Dou Nan Station, introducing diverse facilities:

Traffic & Balance Bike Practice Area Simulated real-world railroad crossings, traffic lights, and lane-changing markings allow children to learn road safety through play. The balance bike course includes slopes, hairpin turns, and consecutive curves to develop children’s balance and coordination.
All-Age & Accessible Space Features include sandpits, large swings for all ages, accessible swings, wheelchair-friendly rotating discs, and multi-functional fitness equipment—meeting the recreational and exercise needs of people of all ages and abilities.

Fun for the whole family—all day long, rain or shine!
Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan attended the opening ceremony, stating that the project involved a total investment of NT$86 million (NT$60 million from the county government and NT$26 million self-funded by Dou Nan Township). What was once a dull space under an overpass has now been transformed into a high-quality environment combining play, exercise, and sun protection—accessible and safe for people of all ages year-round.
Dou Nan Township Mayor Shen Hui-hsun noted that participatory design was adopted from the planning stage, incorporating residents’ feedback. Beyond children’s playgrounds, dedicated fitness and relaxation spaces for teens and seniors were also created. With nearby inline skating rinks, basketball courts, and rural landscapes, it’s an ideal spot for families to unwind together.
Phase Two Adds Another NT$30 Million—Anticipated Zip Line and Traverse Climbing Wall
The Dou Nan Township Office announced plans for a second phase worth approximately NT$30 million, adding a zip line course, vertical log bridge, balance training sets, traverse climbing panels, and X-shaped obstacle courses to cater to youth seeking extreme sports. Additionally, landscape-themed play equipment inspired by Dou Nan’s mascot will be designed for preschoolers, along with picnic and rest areas for seniors—moving toward an 'autonomous, inclusive, and sustainable' comprehensive park.
