Democratic Progressive Party Tainan mayoral candidate Chen Ting-fei attended the launch event of the 'Hundred Trades Labor Support Association' today (15th), where workers from various industries gathered under the leadership of the Five Major General Labor Unions and the Gongzuo Xingshan Group to show unified support, demonstrating collective labor solidarity. Chen emphasized that she comes from a working-class family and has risen from the grassroots without 'being born with a silver political spoon,' enabling her to deeply understand the daily hardships and pressures faced by workers. If elected Tainan mayor, she pledged to serve as 'everyone’s labor mayor,' making labor policies more professional and closely aligned with frontline needs.
Chen stressed that municipal governance cannot be a 'one-size-fits-all' approach, and labor issues especially cannot be addressed with blanket policies. If elected, she will enhance the professionalism of labor policies by establishing dedicated municipal advisors and a specialized communication platform, gradually improving worker training, welfare protections, and working conditions, while ensuring frontline workers have a real channel to voice their concerns directly to city hall.
Chen also shared a personal family story: her father once sold fruit at Dong Market, never hiding imperfect-looking produce underneath the stall, but instead laying it all out for customers to choose freely, allowing them to cut away the flawed parts themselves. At night, he sold quilts at night markets, similarly displaying all items openly for customers to select. She said her father always believed in 'honest business, treating all fairly regardless of age or status,' a principle that taught her from childhood the importance of being down-to-earth and genuine. This belief has guided her public service, where she faces problems head-on and seeks solutions when challenges arise.
Chen emphasized that she has never distanced herself from the grassroots and does not make empty political promises. 'I won’t pat my chest today and walk away tomorrow,' she said. Throughout her journey, she has consistently faced problems directly and sought solutions when encountering difficulties. She pledged to uphold this same attitude in advancing labor policies—step by step, item by item, ensuring steady implementation.
She noted that improvements in worker training, welfare, and working conditions cannot happen overnight and require ongoing dialogue between government, workers, and industries to gradually identify solutions best suited to Tainan’s industrial landscape and labor realities.
Chen emphasized that the mayor’s role is not that of a distant ruler, but rather a 'platform that allocates resources and serves everyone.' If given the opportunity, she would become the mayor for all Tainan workers, transforming city hall into a bridge between labor and industry, listening to frontline workers’ needs and directing limited resources to where they are most needed.
She also addressed fellow workers, stating that Tainan’s industrial development is powered by every hardworking laborer on the front lines. Beyond driving economic and industrial growth, the city government must ensure workers receive proper protection and respect during urban development, making every effort visible and valued.
Finally, Chen called on workers, professionals across all trades, and all citizens who believe in Tainan’s future to support her and share this support with friends and family. 'Let us write history together and welcome Tainan’s first female mayor in its 400-year history!' she declared. No matter the challenges ahead, she vowed to continue walking step by step with Tainan’s citizens, ensuring every contribution is seen and that workers enjoy better working conditions and more dignified lives in the city’s development.
