Walk & Run Kaohsiung 3.0 entered its third year, with the full-period lottery event held last night (14th) in conjunction with the 5000m Challenge hosted by the Kaohsiung City Sports Development Bureau. Numerous runners completed the challenge and gathered on-site to witness the lucky winners of premium prizes and the grand prize, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The most anticipated prize, the 'iPhone 17,' was drawn from over 8,400 participants, with the lucky winner being the individual with APP ID 341340.
Now in its third year, Walk & Run Kaohsiung has expanded significantly—from 24 fitness hotspots in version 2.0 to covering all 38 administrative districts of Kaohsiung, featuring 70 designated sports locations and 8 hiking trails. Residents are encouraged to use the app to record their walking or running routes. By completing daily goals such as '8,000 steps,' '3 kilometers,' or visiting specific locations, participants earn exclusive mission badges and qualify for prize draws.
Prior to this lottery, over 8,400 people had already registered.
Collect Badges Across 38 Districts and 70 Locations: Five Achievement Tiers Recognize Fitness Progress
This year, Walk & Run Kaohsiung 3.0 features five achievement tiers based on the number of sports location badges collected: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Sapphire, and Diamond. Bronze (1–9 badges) was achieved by 3,414 people; Silver (10–17 badges) by 420; Gold (18–27 badges) by 78; Sapphire (28–37 badges) by 92; and the top-tier Diamond (38 or more badges) by 92 participants.
The Sports Development Bureau stated that through tiered mission design, participants are encouraged not only to exercise for prizes but also to explore Kaohsiung’s diverse sports locations while accumulating badges, integrating fitness into daily life.
Ms. Tsai, who had just completed the 5000m Challenge, was thrilled to win a Garmin running watch in the lottery. She shared that she and her running group often strategize together to efficiently complete badge missions. Several members of her running group have already reached the highest Diamond-level achievement.
Tsai recounted completing a hike up Kuhanosing Mountain, one of Taiwan’s 100 famous peaks, and afterward visiting indigenous sports spots like the Taoyuan Yani Sports Field—combining hiking, running, and exploring Kaohsiung. 'Walk & Run Kaohsiung' has become a major highlight of her group’s training routine.
Hou Tsun-Yao: More Than Prizes—Turning Fitness into a Lifestyle
Sports Development Bureau Director Hou Tsun-Yao expressed gratitude for the continued support from citizens and runners as the event enters its third year. He emphasized that through fun and challenging walking and running missions, the goal is for citizens to enjoy a sense of achievement in collecting badges and reaching goals—not only gaining health but also adding small joys to life through weekly and monthly prize draws.
Hou stressed that Walk & Run Kaohsiung 3.0 is more than just a location-based lottery event—it aims to promote a citywide fitness culture. Seeing runners persist through rain and wind, striving for health and personal goals, is the greatest meaning behind the event.
Although the full-period lottery for Walk & Run Kaohsiung 3.0 has concluded, the Bureau encourages citizens to continue walking and running, exploring Kaohsiung’s diverse sports venues: 'Let’s walk toward health and run toward vitality!'
Additionally, the Bureau will host two more '5000m Challenge' events on August 21 and September 4. Triathlon national athlete Li Wei and Saint Team head coach Tsai Sheng-Yi will serve as guest warm-up coaches, guiding runners through pre-race warm-ups. Registration for the September 4 event remains open until August 24—runners are encouraged to seize the opportunity to challenge themselves and improve their 5000m performance.
