New Taipei mayoral candidate and legislator Su Chiao-hui kicked off her campaign early this morning (the 16th) with a street tour of Wugu Public Market and Chengzhou Market, accompanied by New Taipei City Councilor Li Yu-hsiang and councilor candidate Tai Ling-yu. She was enthusiastically welcomed by vendors and residents, with supporters shouting 'Go, Su Chiao-hui!' and one person spontaneously singing 'Pink Supercar'—'Charge! Charge! Charge forward!'—while others handed over menus for Su to sign. Many residents lined up to shake hands and take photos, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.
Su stated that Wugu has the highest proportion of young and working-age residents among all New Taipei districts. With ongoing land redevelopment and continuous population growth, there is increasing demand for public facilities such as schools, public kindergartens, childcare centers, libraries, and parking lots. She pledged to accelerate the construction of missing public infrastructure and establish an 'Urban Renewal Bureau' to speed up the revitalization of aging neighborhoods, ensuring urban development keeps pace with population growth.
On industrial development, Su proposed building a 'world-class convention and exhibition center' to provide high-standard venues for exhibitions and conferences, meeting the needs of New Taipei's tech and emerging industries. By connecting Wugu's industrial clusters with urban development, she aims to enhance the city's international competitiveness and generate more job and business opportunities for the area.
After the market visit, Su immediately headed to the 'Dongdao Cup' battling top tournament hosted by Councilor Peng Chia-yun and the 'Water Fun Parent-Child Water Mat Carnival' organized by councilor candidate Chen Chun-wei. From battling tops to water gun fights, Su joined in the fun with children and families. Several kids recognized her and excitedly shouted, 'It's the Otter Mom!' rushing to hug and take photos with her.
Su emphasized that whether it's her ongoing 'Otter Mom Playground' events or local councilors' family activities, the goal is to make the New Taipei team a reliable partner for parents, offering children diverse and enriching summer experiences that embody the spirit of 'learning through play, playing through learning.'
She stressed that child-rearing is not just a family responsibility but requires government and societal support. Therefore, she and New Taipei councilors have proposed free vaccinations against enterovirus and rotavirus for children aged 0–6, as well as waiving outpatient and inpatient co-payments for this age group. They also plan to expand temporary childcare capacity, launch nighttime childcare services, establish a childcare information platform, and offer incentives of up to one million NT dollars to companies that create family-friendly workplaces.
Su emphasized that public infrastructure, urban renewal, and childcare support are all critical policies that directly impact citizens' quality of life. Moving forward, she will continue to stand with local councilors and residents to address infrastructure gaps in Wugu and across New Taipei, building a city where young families want to stay, businesses want to invest, and children can grow up safely—making New Taipei the most family-friendly city in Taiwan.
