Indigenous, Pop, and Hakka Music Collide at Zonggu HAKKA Music Festival in Hualien, Call for Music Creators Now Open

The '2026 Zonggu HAKKA Music Festival – Band Night' kicked off on the evening of the 15th at the Hualien County Hakka Cultural Park. The event brought together musical energies from Hakka, Indigenous, pop, and cross-genre artists, culminating in a passionate group sing-along led by closing performer Fan Yichen, who delivered a series of hit songs that elevated the atmosphere to its peak. In addition to showcasing cultural integration through diverse musical styles, Hualien County announced that submissions for the 'Music Creation Competition' will be accepted until 5:00 PM on September 18, inviting music-loving creators to seize the opportunity to shine on stage.

The band night featured a diverse lineup of young musical talents. The opening act was performed by 'HAIZ Band,' a group of Indigenous youth, delivering an energetic performance. This was followed by winners of the '2025 Zonggu HAKKA Music Festival Music Creation Competition'—Hong Shangjie, Guo Yanlin (Jane), and Kiiroposto—who took the stage one after another, showcasing their rich creative abilities through original compositions.

The evening concluded with a powerful performance by acclaimed singer Fan Yichen, who sang multiple classic hits, prompting the audience to wave their hands and sing along in unison. On stage, diverse musical styles—including Hakka originals, pop songs, and Indigenous melodies—intersected, creating innovative and dynamic cross-genre sparks that attracted numerous locals and tourists alike.

Hualien County Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei stated that Hualien's deep cultural foundation stems from the harmonious coexistence of multiple ethnic groups. The county government continues to promote cultural rooting and arts outreach, aiming to integrate culture into daily life. The 'Zonggu HAKKA Music Festival' blends Hakka culture, local characteristics, and musical creativity to build a shared platform for cross-ethnic and cross-generational exchange, reflecting Hualien's inclusive urban identity.

Director Pan Chien-chien of the Hualien Hakka Affairs Division emphasized that the festival serves not only as a vital medium for promoting Hakka culture and strengthening community bonds but also as a stage for young music creators. The county encourages the new generation to infuse innovative thinking and contemporary expressions into traditional Hakka culture, ensuring its vibrant vitality across generations.

To amplify more outstanding original works, the '2026 Zonggu HAKKA Music Festival' continues to host a music creation competition.
