A new summer retreat has appeared in Yangmingshan's Zhuzihu area! The Taipei City Department of Land Engineering has completed the 'Houkan Shuiquan Trail' by the end of March 2026. Preserving the natural landscape, they employed handcrafted techniques to install wooden rest areas and a rope suspension bridge, allowing visitors to stroll amidst the babbling brook and lush bamboo groves. Originally, this path was a private trail used by local farmers to inspect irrigation canals. Over time, it has become a hidden gem for hikers. Visitors can enjoy the natural scenery where mountains and water blend, as well as the rural charm and water canal culture of the Huda community. Along the way, you'll find irrigation canals, forests, and bamboo groves, each step offering a picturesque view. To ensure safety while preserving the natural environment, the Taipei City Department of Land Engineering adopted a handcrafted approach. They repaired existing irrigation facilities, installed permeable stone paths, stepped stone paths, and deck paths. These are connected to water canal bridges and rope suspension bridges, creating a walking path that harmonizes with nature. Additionally, a new entrance plaza with wooden seating has been set up, providing a comfortable resting area for travelers. The Houkan Shuiquan Trail is about 1.4 kilometers away from the popular 'Cao Mountain Waterfall Bridge.' As you stroll along the trail, you'll be surrounded by lush forests and serene bamboo groves. You can also easily visit nearby attractions: For flower and greenery viewing: Visit the nearby Xiuqiu Flower Fields or walk through the Qingfeng Trail for lush greenery. For cultural and natural experiences: Explore the Zhuzihu Scenic Platform, Penglai Rice Original Seed Field Story Museum, and Shuichaliao Water Canal Trail, offering a day of ecological, cultural, and leisure activities in the mountains. Visitors have praised the Houkan Shuiquan Trail for its cool and serene environment, making it an ideal summer retreat. Some comments include: 'Perfect for hot summer days, a cool and easy walking path,' 'The trail is well-maintained and easy to walk, suitable for all ages,' 'The sound of flowing water is soothing,' 'Even in summer, it's cool and you can enjoy the forest,' and 'The trail is well-shaded, making it a great place to escape the heat.'
