When Hollywood's top-tier visual effects meet local cultural memory, what transformative impact can they bring to regional industries?

Yunlin County Magistrate candidate and Legislator Chang Chia-chun was invited today (20th) to attend the '2026 Taoyuan International Film Technology Forum,' where she held in-depth exchanges with Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng and Wētā FX (Weta FX) CEO Hsieh An. She expressed her determination to introduce the world's most advanced film technologies and AI virtual production tools into Yunlin, aiming to preserve local cultural heritage and open international platforms for young local creators.

Chang Chia-chun extended special thanks to Mayor Chang Shan-cheng for organizing the international forum, which successfully connects global cinematic technology resources. She emphasized that inter-city collaboration presents opportunities to cultivate emerging industries, and expressed hope for deeper future cooperation between Taoyuan and Yunlin in science and technology, culture, and film, jointly unlocking new possibilities for Taiwan's content industry.

Discussing the intersection of technology and humanity, Chang highlighted the legacies of two iconic singers: Fei Fei Feng, the late singing queen from Daxi, Taoyuan, and Teresa Teng, the internationally renowned late Chinese vocalist from Baozhong, Yunlin. She shared her deep emotional resonance upon witnessing how digital technology could allow these two legendary stars to 'step back onto the stage.' Notably, she pointed out that the creation of the virtual Teresa Teng—an advanced digital recreation of a classic icon—was precisely achieved by Hsieh An’s team.

The Yunlin County Government previously hosted the 'Teresa Teng Reappears in Yunlin – Floating Projection Concert,' utilizing AI, virtual avatars, and aerial projection technology to successfully revive Teresa Teng’s singing presence. The concert even enabled a cross-temporal duet between the virtual icon and a live performer. Chang emphasized that the value of technology lies not only in realistic visuals but also in transcending time to pass down shared local memories in new forms, thereby breathing fresh life into historical and cultural heritage.

Chang explained that Yunlin has been actively investing in image creation and professional talent development in recent years. Through industry-academia collaboration and cultural exhibitions, the county is gradually building a complete creative ecosystem. The Department of Digital Media Design at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology has long cultivated professionals in animation, digital imaging, and visual effects. The 'Yunlin Film Festival' has now entered its fifth edition, steadily accumulating local creative energy.

Chang stated that bringing world-leading technologies and innovative thinking back to Yunlin will help transform local figures and historical stories into globally competitive audiovisual content. This vision aims to propel more original Yunlin stories onto the world stage, achieving a dual win of cultural preservation and youth employment.
