Hongyang Life Insurance announced today (20th) that its CEO, Tang Wei-Hua, has resigned due to personal career planning, effective September 3, 2024. The company’s board of directors resolved today to appoint Hsing Kai-Kuo, Senior Vice President, as acting CEO.

Born in 1960, 66-year-old Tang Wei-Hua, a native of Shilin District, Taipei City, served as CEO of Hongyang Life since February 10, 2014—over 12 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Fu Jen Catholic University and a master’s degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Iowa, USA. He is a qualified Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (USA). His previous roles include Chief Financial Officer and Chief Actuary at American-owned Kang Chien Life Taiwan Branch, and CEO of Zurich International Life Taiwan Branch.

Colleagues describe Tang as quick-minded, articulate yet reserved, fluent in English with an elegant accent, and courteous toward frontline staff. He often joined employees at motivational events or sales department dinners, sharing meals and drinks, earning a reputation as an approachable and personable leader.

In the eyes of his peers, Tang is upright and prudent—"someone who knows when to step back." One colleague remarked, "Surviving 12 years under Lin Hung-Nan, the company’s major shareholder, without major incidents is impressive."

Hongyang Life also announced today that its board has re-elected Li Chi-Hsien as Chairman. Born in 1956, 70-year-old Li previously served as Director-General of the Financial Supervisory Commission’s Securities and Futures Bureau, CEO of the GreTai Securities Market, and Chairman of South China Yongchang Securities. He is widely regarded as a stabilizing force for Hongyang Life, especially amid past controversies involving related-party transactions and ongoing challenges stemming from the company’s relatively small scale, which hampers growth and competitiveness.
