Taipei City Council Speaker and KMT Taipei City Party Chairman Dai Hsi-chin announced on the 17th that Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an will not individually campaign for or endorse individual Taiwan People's Party (TPP) legislative candidates. Instead, support will be limited to joint campaign rallies. In response, KMT legislator Yeh Yuan-chih criticized the move on the 19th during the program 'Villager Supervisory Court,' arguing that the KMT's decision could accumulate resentment within the TPP and undermine broader opposition integration.
Yeh Yuan-chih stated that by establishing a rule against individual endorsements, the KMT risks making the TPP feel disadvantaged, saying, 'We (White) supported Chiang Wan-an, yet we are being restricted—as if we are the weaker side.' This, he warned, could accumulate ill will between opposition parties.
Yeh emphasized that President Lai Ching-te is practicing 'authoritarianism' and 'undemocratic' governance in Taiwan, while Premier Cho Jung-tai even 'acted like a thug' by telling Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu that he 'doesn't understand the Constitution.' Therefore, the 2028 presidential election is not just about party alternation but about 'saving our democracy,' necessitating strong opposition unity.
Yeh criticized the KMT for setting a rule in Taipei that prohibits individual endorsements for TPP candidates, with Chiang Wan-an allowed to attend only one joint rally. He warned this could foster resentment among TPP supporters, leading them to withhold votes from Chiang in future elections. Yeh urged that 'the bigger picture truly matters' and called for swift resolution of opposition coordination in Zhubei City.
