The '2026 AI Healthcare Leadership Awards' (AI Healthcare Innovation Awards, AIHIA), hosted by Wind Media, officially held its evaluation session on Friday, August 21. This year’s awards highlight how artificial intelligence is entering clinical settings—from disease risk prediction and early diagnosis to clinical decision-making and cross-hospital integration—transitioning AI from an 'assistive tool' to a foundational component of healthcare processes. This reflects Taiwan’s progress in moving AI healthcare from technological development to real-world clinical implementation.

The evaluation brought together experts from the fields of medicine, artificial intelligence, technology industry, and healthcare management. On-site reviewers included Dr. Pan-Chyr Yang, Chairperson of the National Biotechnology and Medical Industry Promotion Association; Dr. Wei-Chou Du, Executive Director of the National Taiwan University Artificial Intelligence Research Center (AINTU); Mr. Han-Chang Wu, CEO of Taiwan Biomedical Big Data Corporation; and Dr. Chia-Chuan Hsieh, Executive Director of the Taipei Outpatient Center at Tri-Service General Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Meng-Ju Shen, President of National Cheng Kung University, and Mr. Chien-Chang Lee, Director of the Information Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, participated online. They assessed each participating team’s innovation and practical impact from multiple perspectives, including clinical medicine, AI technology, industrial application, and smart healthcare integration.

By integrating big data analytics and intelligent systems into routine blood testing, the hospital extracts and precisely predicts potential health risks from existing test data, enhancing early screening efficiency for primary care clinics and daily health management. The system currently serves over 30,000 cases monthly, with applications extending from emergency care to inpatient care and specific pathogen prediction. The project has secured invention patents and been published in multiple international authoritative journals, showcasing tangible progress in transitioning AI healthcare from research to clinical application.
National Cheng Kung University Hospital | Predict to Care: AI-Powered Precision Prediction for Smart Palliative Care
National Cheng Kung University Hospital won for 'Predict to Care: AI-Powered Precision Prediction for Smart Palliative Care,' focusing on medical decision-making and family support needs in end-of-life care. Using intelligent models to predict patient disease progression and care requirements, the system provides clinically grounded information at critical moments, helping medical teams and families plan care early. The NCKU team has built a large palliative care database, integrating years of accumulated care experience and evidence-based outcomes, making AI a supportive tool for medical teams and families during crucial end-of-life decisions, thereby improving quality of care and trust between patients and providers.

Facing the challenge that traditional CT scans miss up to 40% of tumors under 2 cm, Zhu Yin Jian enhances early diagnostic capabilities through AI image analysis. It has obtained Taiwan’s first TFDA medical device certification for pancreatic cancer detection and received U.S. FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and multiple international academic awards.

By combining routine blood test data with intelligent computation, the system helps identify atypical and high-risk cases during the early fever stage, breaking through the previous limitation of waiting for typical symptoms to appear before diagnosis. Early AI alerts enable physicians to conduct examinations and initiate treatment faster, securing critical intervention time and reducing long-term complication risks such as coronary artery lesions.
National Atomic Energy Science and Technology Research Institute | ECDaim Cerebral Perfusion Imaging Analysis System
The National Atomic Energy Science and Technology Research Institute, in collaboration with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, developed the 'ECDaim Cerebral Perfusion Imaging Analysis System.' It addresses the high cost and long wait times for advanced diagnostic tests for early dementia by leveraging widely available, NHI-covered cerebral blood flow scans. Without requiring additional hardware, it serves as an objective triage tool before advanced testing, helping reduce medical costs. The system can also be applied to clinical judgment for stroke and neurodegenerative diseases, assisting physicians in rapidly assessing patient conditions and formulating treatment strategies in time-sensitive acute care scenarios. The patented technology has won Platinum and Gold Awards at the Taiwan Invention and Innovation Exhibition and has obtained medical device manufacturing approval.

National Taiwan University Hospital showcased its 'AI Smart Hospital Integration Platform,' demonstrating the integration of AI into large-scale healthcare systems. The platform establishes a generative AI infrastructure with dual cloud-and-on-premise backup, embedding AI into the hospital’s entire clinical workflow. It automatically analyzes outputs from various medical devices and generates draft reports, reducing report generation time from minutes to under 20 seconds. Additionally, it has standardized hundreds of thousands of allergy records using international coding, supporting large-scale case analysis and individual case monitoring. This transforms AI from a standalone application into an integral part of the hospital’s digital healthcare architecture. The project has received the National Innovation Award and National Quality Mark.

Shuang Ho Hospital and Zhi Li Enterprise Co., Ltd. jointly launched the 'RapidAI Smart Stroke Integrated Care Platform – Cross-Departmental AI Integrated Healthcare Application.' It addresses information gaps during inter-hospital transfers and emergency care for acute stroke patients by connecting regional networks and enabling rapid image interpretation, facilitating real-time information exchange and remote collaboration between different levels of healthcare institutions. By bridging information silos within and between hospitals and across departments, the system effectively shortens emergency and transfer times, helping patients receive timely and appropriate treatment and securing critical survival and recovery opportunities for stroke patients.
