Nan Yang Enterprise, Hyundai's official distributor in Taiwan, officially launched the Palisade on the 20th, introducing a single-model strategy in the Taiwanese market with the 2.5L Turbo Hybrid flagship variant. The official price is set at NT$2.58 million, with orders accepted starting immediately and full-scale vehicle displays commencing at five major exhibition centers across Taiwan from the 22nd. As Hyundai's highest-end model currently available in Taiwan, the Palisade not only shoulders the mission of elevating the brand but is also viewed by Nan Yang Enterprise as a critical product to penetrate the large-scale luxury SUV market.
Jen Shing-sheng, Executive Vice President of Nan Yang Enterprise, stated that the target audience for the Palisade differs from typical family-oriented SUVs, focusing instead on consumers who already own luxury SUVs. The goal is to position the Palisade as an alternative choice for current owners when purchasing a new vehicle or adding to their fleet. Regarding sales planning, deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2024, with a target of approximately 75 units sold in the fourth quarter of 2026. When calculated on an annual basis, the sales challenge is set at 300 units. While Jen acknowledged that the annual target of 300 units is challenging, he remains optimistic about market performance.
From a market positioning perspective, the Palisade is not primarily designed for mass sales but aims to establish Hyundai's brand prestige in the high-end market through its flagship product. With a length exceeding 5 meters and a wheelbase of 2,970mm, the Palisade features a 2/2/3 seven-seater configuration and is equipped with a 2.5L Turbo Hybrid powertrain delivering a combined 334 horsepower. Paired with Hyundai's HTRAC intelligent electronic four-wheel drive system, the Palisade fully aligns with the large-scale luxury SUV market in terms of vehicle size, space, and power. Hyundai's three core product concepts for the Palisade—"Living Space," "Next-Gen Hybrid," and "Luxury Layering"—combine the spaciousness of large SUVs with the functional interior of MPVs, while integrating next-generation hybrid technology and premium features across all seats to enhance product value.
The Palisade offers six Type-C charging ports with support for up to 100W fast charging and is equipped with a Bose premium surround sound system.
For Nan Yang Enterprise, the significance of the Palisade extends beyond the sales figures of a single model. As competition intensifies in the imported car and high-end SUV markets, how brands can transition from mainstream markets to higher tiers remains a critical strategic focus for automakers. By entering the market at NT$2.58 million, the Palisade targets existing luxury SUV owners, signaling Hyundai's attempt to break through the price and product tier ceiling that the brand has previously maintained.
In addition to the Palisade's product strategy, Jen Shing-sheng also discussed the outlook for Taiwan's overall new car market in 2024, maintaining an annual forecast of 420,000 to 430,000 units. However, given the high sales base in the fourth quarter of 2023, achieving significant growth in the fourth quarter of 2024 is expected to be difficult, with the market likely to experience a slowdown in growth momentum.
