2027 Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon Registration Opens: Themed Experience Camps to Create an Inclusive Charity Race

The '2027 Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon', a flagship marathon event in Taiwan hosted by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association and sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank, officially launched registration today (26th). The race will kick off energetically on January 10, 2027, offering diverse categories including 3km, 12km, half marathon, and full marathon, providing runners with more flexible participation options and encouraging more people to take on the challenge while supporting charitable causes.

The 2027 edition continues the theme 'Run Further Together', linking to Standard Chartered’s global series of ten-city marathons. It introduces themed runner experience camps tailored for women and beginner runners, enabling participants of all levels and goals to start their journey in a way that suits them. Additionally, this year’s event will invite track and field teams from Jian-Shi Junior High School and Dong-Tai Senior High School to participate, supporting young athletes in stepping onto official race tracks and embodying the spirit of 'Run Further Together'. The indie band icyball will serve as event ambassadors, cheering on runners with live music on race day and rallying fans to experience the passion of running.

To celebrate the registration launch, a 'Run Further Together' pop-up event will be held from August 28 to 30 at Taipei City’s East District Underground Street Plaza 2. Attendees can learn more about the race, receive limited-edition souvenirs, and enter a lucky draw for premium prizes by checking in on-site—inviting the public to experience the event’s energy in advance.

The launch press conference was attended by Tom Tang, Deputy Director of the Taipei City Department of Sports, and Kuo Kuo-Hsiung, President of the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association, underscoring the city’s strong support. As one of Taiwan’s most iconic international road races, the 2026 edition was officially recognized as a qualifying race for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Rankings, enhancing its global competitiveness and professional credibility.

Deputy Director Tom Tang stated, 'The Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon is not only a landmark charity race in Taiwan but also a vital platform showcasing urban vitality and unity.' Kuo Kuo-Hsiung added, 'This marathon allows Taiwanese runners to interact with international athletes and access world-class race resources.'

As the first stop in Standard Chartered’s global ten-city marathon series, the Taipei event attracts runners from over 50 countries annually. Beyond racing, participants engage in pre-race activities like Shakeout Runs, experiencing Taiwan’s culture, city charm, and philanthropic spirit. The event also encourages local runners to go global through a lucky draw: registrants during the official period can win a '5-day, 4-night dream trip' to another Standard Chartered marathon abroad, including flights, accommodation, and free race entry, inspiring runners to start from Taipei and complete the ultimate challenge across all ten global cities.

To encourage broader participation, the 2027 marathon will launch themed experience camps in partnership with New Balance Run Club (NBRC), offering customized training programs for women and beginner runners. All registrants—regardless of distance (3km, 12km, half, or full marathon)—can join these camps to build proper running habits, improve fitness, and gain confidence through structured training. The goal is to welcome newcomers and cross-sport athletes into the running community, helping them enjoy growth and transformation with every step.

The Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon is Taiwan’s largest charity marathon. Since 2013, it has contributed over NT$144.25 million through race proceeds, public donations, fundraising campaigns, and funding from the Standard Chartered Foundation, supporting youth employment, women’s entrepreneurship, and empowerment of visually impaired individuals. Tom Yu, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Taiwan, said, 'We aim to connect more people who care about society through running. For runners, every step is not just self-improvement—it’s an act of supporting social good and helping others run toward a better future.'

This year’s event also features a charity donation lucky draw: from now until October 30, anyone donating over NT$500—whether during registration or via the bank’s charity program—can enter to win a limited-edition 2027 Standard Chartered Marathon performance jacket.

Taiwan’s legendary triathlete and 'Triple Crown King of Extreme Triathlon' Wu Cheng-Tai (Tyson) attended the launch after retiring from competition, now serving as a coach and mentor. He shared his international racing experiences and personal journey from athlete to coach alongside Tom Yu.

Recalling his most memorable race, Tyson mentioned the grueling Norseman Extreme Triathlon in Norway—one of the world’s toughest. Crossing fjords, highlands, and mountains amid unpredictable weather, he achieved Asia’s best and 8th globally on his first attempt. But what stayed with him was the awe of nature and the roadside support from locals who waited hours to cheer. 'Those few seconds of encouragement can become the force that keeps a runner going,' he said, realizing no extreme challenge is completed alone. Years later, he returned—not as a competitor, but as a coach, supporting athletes through the toughest segments.

Looking ahead, Tyson said his focus has shifted from time and ranking to using his experience to help more people complete their first race. He encourages beginners to start with 3km or 12km instead of jumping into a full marathon. To fans, he said, 'Run Further Together doesn’t mean finishing a full marathon—it means reaching a place you’ve never been before.'

Registration for the '2027 Standard Chartered Taipei Marathon' opens for early birds on August 26, 2026, at 4:00 PM and ends on September 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM. General registration runs from September 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM to October 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
