Unimicron, the top player among Taiwan's 'Big Three Substrate Makers,' opened sharply lower on August 31, immediately hitting the daily lower limit of NT$999. The stock remained locked at this price throughout the session, closing down NT$111, or 10%, marking its first close below the NT$1,000 threshold and officially exiting the elite 'thousand-dollar stock' club. At one point, sell orders exceeded 90,000 lots, but with insufficient buyers, trading volume shrank despite the massive sell-side pressure.
This marks the second consecutive day of sharp declines for Unimicron. On August 28, the stock closed at NT$1,110, down 5.93%. Combined with the 31st's limit-down, the two-day cumulative drop reached 15.34%. From the intraday peak of NT$1,230 on the 28th, the share price has plunged 18.8% in just two days. Market panic over the prosecutor's raid and controversy surrounding origin labeling appears not yet fully priced in.
