The registration for this year’s local grassroots public office elections officially opened today (31st), with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) showing proactive deployment in traditionally challenging constituencies. This morning, Chang Yi-li, former Director of Kaohsiung City's Youth Affairs Bureau and candidate for the Zuonan district city council, personally accompanied six DPP-nominated township councilor candidates from Zuoying District to complete joint registration at the Zuoying District Office as the 'New Zuoying Township Councilor Team,' showcasing the new generation’s determination to enter grassroots politics and transform local governance.

The six candidates include Liu Pin-yin from Fu-hua Village, Cheng Chi-pao from Fu-shan Village, Huang Pei-jou from Gao-tie Village, Chu Kuan-i from Cai-fu Village, Wang Tzu-wen from Xin-chao Village, and Fang Hsin-min from Xin-guang Village. Covering areas of Zuoying experiencing rapid population growth, the team aims to respond to the fast-changing local needs with fresh perspectives and energetic action.

Chang Yi-li stated that Zuoying has recently benefited from the development of the high-speed rail lifestyle zone and the emerging semiconductor industrial corridor, attracting a large influx of new residents and young families. As the district’s demographic structure and living demands rapidly evolve, grassroots services must also transform. Beyond traditional responsibilities such as environmental maintenance and community services, councilors must now leverage new tools and innovative thinking to deliver more immediate and efficient services to residents.

Chang pointed out that Zuoying has long been considered a difficult electoral district where the Kuomintang holds a strong advantage, with only one incumbent DPP councilor among all current village leaders. Despite this political landscape, these six young candidates have chosen to step forward and run under the DPP banner, demonstrating a 'warrior spirit' of responsibility and courage to challenge the status quo.

The 'New Zuoying Team' collectively emphasized that one of the greatest advantages of youth participation in politics is their flexible communication styles and diverse perspectives. If elected, they will not only continue essential duties such as environmental upkeep and community care but also actively utilize social media and digital tools to enhance transparency in village governance. They aim to connect central and municipal resources to promote intergenerational integration, child-friendly policies, community aesthetics, and youth engagement—ensuring neighborhood governance meets the needs of all generations.

Pineapple and 'Long Dong Shuan' Boost Morale: Chang Yi-li Calls for Innovative Generation in Grassroots

Chang Yi-li specially prepared pineapples and custom-made 'Long Dong Shuan' (a pun on 'winning') to energize the six candidates. He explained that creative homophones like 'Hsiung Hsing Long' and 'Long Hsiung He' have recently gained attention on social media, prompting him to collaborate with the original designer to launch two exclusive campaign items: 'Long Dong Shuan' and 'Long Li-hsiang'.

'Long Li-hsiang' symbolizes the six candidates’ ideals and aspirations as they enter local politics, turning their vision for the community into action. 'Long Dong Shuan' is a blessing for all DPP grassroots candidates, wishing them victory—from mayors and city councilors to village leaders—working together as a team where the 'mother hen leads the chicks' to full electoral success.

Chang emphasized that village chiefs are the frontline representatives closest to citizens and the first to identify local issues. The new generation’s entry into grassroots politics is not about chasing a 'youth label' but about bringing diverse generational needs into local governance. Facing new challenges in Zuoying—such as transportation, housing, childcare, and community environment—he pledged to walk door-to-door with the six candidates, listening to residents’ voices. He envisions the 'New Zuoying Team' not just as a campaign group, but as a new generation service force deeply embedded in the community, ready to solve real problems.
