Navy Allocates $18.28 Billion to Build New 'Replenishment Ship'! Navy: Combines Stealth, Mobility, and Protection

The Navy currently operates two fuel and ammunition replenishment ships: the Wu Yi and the Pan Shi. According to the Ministry of National Defense's 116th fiscal year budget document, the Navy will procure a follow-on vessel of the next-generation fuel and ammunition replenishment ship, allocating a total of NT$18.283015 billion over six years to construct one new replenishment ship.

The Navy stated that among the two existing replenishment ships, the Wu Yi has a relatively high vessel age. Acquiring a new fuel and ammunition replenishment ship will help the Navy conduct mobile at-sea replenishment, support emergency fuel and ammunition transfer and resupply at various ports, and strengthen sustained combat capabilities at sea. The project requires NT$18.283015 billion, which will be budgeted from the 116th to the 121st fiscal years. In the next fiscal year, NT$2.485634 billion will be initially allocated, with construction funds invested annually thereafter. The budget will peak in 2032 at NT$4.08072 billion.

Regarding expected outcomes, the Navy stated it will build a next-generation fuel and ammunition replenishment ship with replenishment capability, high stealth, strong mobility, and robust protection, ensuring that main combat vessels conducting mobile deployments at sea can achieve sustained and reliable combat effectiveness through mobile replenishment.
