A fan support advertisement for the K-pop group IVE displayed on the ceiling screen of Taipei Arena has sparked controversy due to the use of the term 'Chinese Taipei.' Netizens further unearthed a past speech by Shi Fang-heng, wife of Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, in which she also used 'Chinese Taipei,' turning her into a target of political attacks. Taoyuan City Councilor Ling Tao stated on the 14th that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), desperate to salvage the struggling campaign of Shen Po-yang, has mobilized youth movements like 'Qingniao Expedition'—even targeting Chiang Wan-an's wife and refusing to spare former President Tsai Ing-wen. Ling claimed the pressure on the 'Qingniao' movement has reached a breaking point, descending into a 'black bear-like mental breakdown.'
Ling criticized the DPP for resorting to 'resisting China to protect Taiwan' as a default campaign narrative, citing Shen Po-yang wearing a bulletproof vest while jogging in Tokyo as a staged performance of being 'wanted,' and the overreaction to the 'Chinese Taipei' mention at Taipei Arena. He questioned the DPP's double standards: in 2016, Health and Welfare Minister Lin Jou-yen attended the World Health Assembly (WHA) as 'Chinese Taipei,' with President Tsai Ing-wen stating there was 'no humiliation in the designation,' and Premier Lin Chuan even declaring 'Chinese Taipei is the Republic of China.'
Ling pointed out that Yang Chen-ni, the current trade negotiator representative under investigation for workplace bullying, used a nameplate labeled 'Chinese Taipei' at APEC. Labor Minister Hung Shen-han is also scheduled to attend the APEC meeting in Nanjing under the same designation. 'What exactly is the DPP's standard?' Ling asked. 'When DPP officials use it, it's “routine and not humiliating,” but when it appears on a fan ad, it's suddenly “humiliating”? Is this cognitive dissonance or an indirect insult to Tsai Ing-wen?'
Even more absurd, Ling said, is that pro-DPP groups dug up Shi Fang-heng's 2017 speech to attack her, despite the event being the APEC Young Women Leaders Workshop hosted by the Executive Yuan under DPP rule—officially promoted with a press release. Shi clearly identified herself as 'Taiwanese' during the speech. 'When DPP officials do it, it's “representing the nation with pride,” but when it's the family of an opponent, it's “damaging national dignity”?' Ling condemned the DPP for fabricating controversies due to a lack of compelling 'resist China' narratives, accusing them of endlessly exploiting national identity for political gain. 'The Green Camp’s political narrative has now descended into black bear-level madness,' he concluded. 'The people of Taiwan see it all.'
