Taichung Transportation Bureau Overhauls Taichung Station for Mid-Autumn Festival with Street Dance and Pickleball Relay Events

With the Mid-Autumn holiday approaching, the Taichung City Government Transportation Bureau has proactively initiated environmental improvement operations at Taichung Station and the bus-only lane platforms along Taiwan Boulevard. The bureau is intensifying cleaning, waste collection, and inspections of public facilities while continuing to enforce public space management, providing citizens and visitors with a clean, comfortable, and safe public transportation environment that reflects Taichung’s welcoming urban image.

The Transportation Bureau stated that since launching personal belongings storage and public space management initiatives in July, Taichung Station has gradually shown visible improvements in its environment, enabling more diverse uses of the space. In addition to hosting a street dance competition, the station was selected at the end of August as the inaugural host venue for the 2026 founding season of the Asian Elite Pickleball League. The second-floor plaza has transformed into a pickleball arena, attracting players and tourists from across the country to watch the matches.

Transportation Bureau Director Yeh Chao-fu stated that Taichung Station serves as the first impression of the city for many travelers, and usage of the station and surrounding public transport facilities significantly increases during holidays. While the city routinely schedules cleaning staff to maintain the environment in shifts, ahead of the holiday break, the bureau has intensified cleaning and preparation efforts at Taichung Station, the Taiwan Boulevard BRT platforms, and waiting areas. Comprehensive reinforcement—from environmental cleaning and waste removal to facility inspections—ensures that returning residents and tourists alike enjoy a bright, clean, and comfortable travel experience.

The bureau noted that for this year's four-day Mid-Autumn holiday, cleaning, disinfection, and inspection activities at Taichung Station and Taiwan Boulevard bus shelters were initiated early, alongside strengthened waste collection and maintenance of public facilities. Additionally, since July 1, the bureau has enforced stricter public space management and site regulations, intensifying oversight of personal items left in non-compliant locations. These measures have gradually proven effective in maintaining clean passageways for travelers, allowing Taichung Station to welcome visitors from around the world with a clean and orderly environment.

Director Yeh emphasized that the second-floor platform at Taichung Station offers ample natural light and excellent ventilation, with convenient access via public transit. Beyond pickleball tournaments, it previously served as a stage for street dance competitions. Travelers passing through from north and south have become ideal audiences, fully demonstrating the multifaceted revitalization potential of public spaces.

The city government urges the public to jointly cherish public spaces. Littering within Taichung Station and surrounding public areas will be penalized under the Waste Disposal Act, while smoking in designated no-smoking zones will result in fines under the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. Everyone is encouraged to dispose of trash properly in bins, working together to maintain a clean and comfortable urban environment.

Furthermore, for well-wishers or organizations wishing to assist individuals experiencing homelessness, the city’s Social Affairs Bureau has established a dedicated window to coordinate material distribution. Members of the public are encouraged to contact the bureau directly to ensure resources are used effectively, avoiding environmental pollution or resource wastage. With safety and friendliness as core goals, the city continues to refine the management and maintenance of public transport hubs.
