Chen Pin-an and Lin Yueh-chin Unite for Mid-Autumn Portrait Exchange, Vow to 'Transform Miaoli’s 76-Year Political Landscape'

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Miaoli county magistrate candidate Chen Pin-an and Miaoli city mayor candidate Lin Yueh-chin united on the 25th to launch a special 'Pomelo Duel' initiative, extending Mid-Autumn greetings to fellow residents of Miaoli. The two personally drew portraits of each other, exchanged festive blessings, and then sat side by side peeling pomelos while discussing county and city policies. Laughter filled the air throughout the event, and both declared in unison: 'We’re here to fight together, not against each other.' They urged opponents to stop spreading false rumors and sowing division, emphasizing their joint mission to transform Miaoli’s political landscape—a region that has seen no party alternation in 76 years—and create a brighter future for the community.

On the eve of the festival, Chen and Lin broke from traditional gift-giving customs, opting instead for a heartfelt surprise: hand-drawn portraits. Seated in a festive Mid-Autumn setting, they picked up their brushes and carefully observed each other’s features. Chen joked, 'What matters most about Yueh-chin is her eyes,' to which Lin immediately responded, 'What matters most about Pin-an is his smile.' When the portraits were revealed, both burst into laughter—an expression of the deep trust and camaraderie built through years of standing shoulder to shoulder.

Legislator Hsu Hsiao-ching, legislator Hsu Ying-ping, and municipal representative candidates Lien Tien-kuei and Tang Kuo-huan also joined the event. Not only did they draw portraits using pomelos, but they also shared their visions for Miaoli, showcasing genuine unity and warmth between county and city leaders.

In response to rumors of discord, Chen and Lin demonstrated their solidarity. After the painting session came the 'Pomelo Peeling Contest.' Holding a fruit knife, Chen looked at the pomelo on the table and quipped, 'I can’t cut your pomelo—otherwise people will say we’re not getting along again.' Lin promptly replied, 'If even peeling a pomelo together can be twisted into conflict, it just shows our alliance is putting pressure on our opponents.' As they peeled and chatted, their easygoing interaction highlighted a strong bond and mutual trust.

Lin emphasized that their excellent chemistry extends beyond festive events to real action in advancing local development. She has recently been actively promoting the 'Minister Every Week' inspection tour, inviting heads of central government ministries to visit Miaoli in person. She continues to bring Chen Pin-an along as a local expert to conduct grassroots inspections, leveraging central-local coordination and cross-sector collaboration to identify community needs and secure tangible resources and development support for Miaoli residents.

Chen and Lin stressed that while they can joke and playfully compete in daily life, their goals and beliefs align completely when it comes to fighting for community well-being and driving change. At the end of the event, each held the hand-drawn portrait gifted by the other in one hand, and a jointly peeled pomelo in the other, shouting together: 'Let’s fight together—to transform Miaoli, a place that hasn’t seen party alternation in 76 years!'
