The Suma Universal Beach Project (Suma UBP), an NPO dedicated to creating beaches where everyone can enjoy themselves together, regardless of disability, will once again implement barrier-free measures at Suma Coast from July 9 (Thu) to August 23 (Sun), 2026. During this period, the project will install beach mats and provide support with amphibious wheelchairs, allowing wheelchair users to enjoy swimming in the ocean with peace of mind. Since the first installation of beach mats in Japan at Suma Coast in 2017, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the activity. To date, approximately 5,000 people, including stroller and wheelchair users, individuals with disabilities and their families, children, and the elderly, have enjoyed the sea. Supported by local volunteers, the government, and businesses, the activity has continued and become a staple of summer at Suma Coast. We look forward to welcoming many more people to Suma Coast this summer to enjoy the sea with smiles.
