Taipei, Taiwan – June 3, 2026 – Synology today announced ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, the latest update to its ActiveProtect data protection appliance. This release enhances cyber resilience by expanding backup and recovery capabilities across major IaaS platforms and virtualization environments, while introducing AI-powered threat detection.
"AI-driven cyber threats are evolving faster than organizations can keep up with, and organizations now require reliable and easy-to-use data protection," said Philip Wong, Chairman and CEO of Synology. In response, Jia-Yu Liu, Executive Vice President of Synology's Data Protection Group, added that ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 "expands protection to major cloud, hypervisor, and SaaS platforms, and by introducing AI-driven threat detection, it transforms data protection from passive recovery to active defense."
### Expanded Platform Support and Recovery Flexibility
ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 extends backup and recovery support to Azure Virtual Machines, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, and Google Workspace, allowing enterprises to flexibly protect workloads across their entire infrastructure. This enables VM instances to be restored across platforms to either cloud or on-premises environments, facilitating seamless redeployment and flexible disaster recovery.
Backup copies to Azure Blob Storage are now supported. Furthermore, users can restore data directly from backup destinations to production VM environments across clouds, reducing recovery time and associated costs.
### AI-Powered Proactive Cyber Resilience
ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 evolves enterprise data protection from passive resilience to active threat detection powered by AI. The anomaly detection engine applies machine learning to past backup versions, immediately detecting irregular patterns such as abnormal change rates, mass deletions, and spikes in entropy. Affected files are automatically quarantined, preventing compromised data from being accidentally restored.
APM 2.0 also integrates with third-party antivirus tools to scan backup data for malware, ensuring that only clean, verified versions can be restored. With the 'Auto Fallback' feature, if a compromised restore point is detected, the system automatically rolls back to the latest non-vulnerable backup, ensuring organizations can always recover from a clean, verified state.
### Availability
ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2026. For more details, please visit the official website.
