Toray Industries, Inc. and T2 Inc. announced the commencement of commercial operations using Level 2 autonomous trucks to regularly transport petrochemicals on sections of the highway between the Kanto and Kansai regions, starting June 4, 2026. This initiative addresses the logistics industry's severe driver shortage and the "2024 problem," which threaten a 34% drop in transport capacity by 2030. Toray's petrochemicals, essential for various industries, require stable supply chains. Following successful trials since September 2025 confirming safety, the companies agreed to commercialize the service. The 520km route from Toray's Chiba Plant to Shibusawa Warehouse in Ibaraki will transport ABS resin 'TOYOLAC'. To promote environmental sustainability, low-carbon fuels like B5 diesel and renewable diesel will be utilized. Both companies aim to establish Level 4 autonomous trunk transport frameworks by fiscal 2027 to ensure a sustainable future for logistics.
