Takahashi Shoten Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsunari Shimizu) has announced that "Hello Goodbye Under the Starry Sky: Shimpei Asai" (written by Shimpei Asai) will be released at bookstores and online retailers nationwide on Friday, July 10, 2026.
In 2026, marking the 60th anniversary of the Beatles' visit to Japan, photographer and writer Shimpei Asai reflects on the "Showa" era from the 1960s to the 1990s through a collection of photographs and essays.
Mr. Asai made his professional debut in 1966, the year of the Beatles' first visit to Japan, with the photobook "Beatles Tokyo: 100 Hours of Romance." For the past 60 years, he has continued to capture the breath of the times, photographing music, culture, cities, and people with his unique sensitivity. This book is an anthology that combines numerous photographs capturing fleeting moments with his writings from that period, including his fateful encounter with the Beatles during his days as an unknown photographer, iconic Showa figures like Tamori, Kiyoshi Atsumi, and Juzo Itami, and travel memories from Tahiti, South Africa, and Mt. McKinley.
Pre-orders will start on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, on the Takahashi Shoten official EC site, Amazon, and other platforms.
