Take Action Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Seiya Narita) has released research data on "Analysis of the Reality of Praise Culture and Turnover Intentions," targeting 1,000 company employees aged 22 to 65 working for companies with 10 or more employees.
The survey revealed a significant gap in the perception of workplace evaluation and communication between management and general staff. Furthermore, those with higher intentions to leave their jobs tended to feel less process evaluation from their superiors and less positive feedback from colleagues.
Survey Summary
1. Evaluation and Communication: Management Feels "It's Being Done," General Staff Feels "It's Not Being Done"
Regarding the question "My supervisor evaluates not only results but also processes," 35.3% of management responded "Agree," compared to 21.0% of general staff.
Similarly, for the question "Positive feedback is exchanged among colleagues," 36.8% of management responded "Agree," compared to 23.3% of general staff.
While management perceives the workplace environment and communication as functioning, the reality is that general staff do not feel this.
2. Approximately Half of Those with High Turnover Intentions Respond "Not Being Evaluated"
Regarding the question "My supervisor evaluates not only results but also processes," 49.5% of those with high turnover intentions responded "Disagree," compared to 15.1% of those with low turnover intentions.
Also, for "Positive feedback is exchanged among colleagues," 49.5% of those with high turnover intentions responded "Disagree," compared to 12.0% of those with low turnover intentions.
This suggests that employees with higher intentions to leave are more likely to feel "not evaluated" and "not recognized."
3. Approximately 5-Fold Difference in Turnover Intentions Depending on the Presence of a "Thank You" Culture
Regarding the question "There is an atmosphere in the company where 'thank you' is naturally expressed," 8.4% of those with low turnover intentions responded "Disagree," while 39.6% of those with high turnover intentions responded "Disagree."
Organizations where daily gratitude and recognition are not felt may lead to decreased employee engagement and increased risk of turnover.

Organizational Issues Revealed by Survey Results
In recent years, many companies have been working to improve engagement and reduce turnover rates.
However, this survey revealed that while management perceives "sufficient evaluation" and "feedback provision," these sentiments are not fully conveyed to general staff. In other words, the issue lies not in the existence of systems, but in "whether they have permeated to a level that can be felt on the ground."
Employees with particularly high turnover intentions strongly tend to not feel process evaluation, a culture of gratitude, or positive communication among colleagues, potentially creating a psychological distance from the organization.
For companies aiming to improve turnover rates and engagement, it is considered important to create mechanisms where employees can feel "recognized" in their daily work, not just relying on management's self-perception.
