Tokyo Electron Device Limited (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Takayoshi Miyamoto; hereafter TED) has established a new support system for utilizing SLM (Small Language Model) in edge environments, centered on the SLM Evaluation Support Program "Try it! SLM on Edge," in anticipation of the full-scale integration of generative AI into their own products in the manufacturing industry.
From the stage of "trying" generative AI utilization through evaluation and verification to considering implementation in products, TED supports strengthening product competitiveness.
Background
In recent years, the movement to incorporate generative AI into products has been progressing in the manufacturing industry. Amid this trend, efforts to implement SLM on edge devices are spreading. One background factor is the emergence of the Intel® Core™ Ultra series 3 processor with AI performance of up to 180 TOPS. This has made running generative AI on the edge and utilizing it for actual product integration a realistic option.
On the other hand, to advance consideration from evaluation/verification to product implementation, know-how regarding usage methods and design concepts has not been sufficiently accumulated, and there are many requests for support.
In light of this situation, TED has established a support system to consider generative AI utilization step by step and lead to implementation.
By combining specific-purpose AI and generative AI (SLM) on the edge, product intelligence is possible.
Support Details
SLM Evaluation Support Program "Try it! SLM on Edge"
<Foundry Local Training>
Provides training to learn basic understanding of SLM utilization in edge environments and concepts of fine-tuning. By starting with experiential understanding of generative AI possibilities using Microsoft's lightweight AI inference platform "Foundry Local," supports the first step toward concretely considering product applications.
<Concierge Support Service>
From the evaluation/verification phase to the stage of considering product integration, dedicated engineers provide hands-on support tailored to the customer's product configuration and usage scenarios. Through implementation-level consideration of where and how to use generative AI, supports concrete considerations for productization. This support is provided as the implementation support phase of "Try it! SLM on Edge."
<Verification Mini PC (Option)>
Offers optional verification mini PCs compatible with edge AI.
Proprietary Technology "FalconVault" with Consideration for Intellectual Property
When incorporating generative AI into products, handling proprietary data and know-how included in AI models is an important issue. TED is also developing a proprietary technology "FalconVault" (patent pending, scheduled for release in summer 2026) as a mechanism considering such intellectual property protection.
TED contributes to improving product competitiveness in the manufacturing industry through support for edge AI utilization.
