The Tesla Model Y, a flagship product, has become the No.1 registered model among foreign car brands in Japan for May 2026. This achievement is a testament to the high regard Japanese customers have for the Model Y and indicates an acceleration in the transition from gasoline vehicles to Teslas (electric vehicles).
The Model Y is a popular model that has sold over 1 million units globally for three consecutive years, praised for its superior range, innovative technology, and exceptional spaciousness and comfort.
We express our gratitude to our customers, partners, and supporters who have contributed to these accomplishments. Tesla Japan will continue to enhance the charging infrastructure and strengthen our service network to deliver the best possible experience to our Japanese customers.
Tesla's Running Costs: Economically Sensible Choice
A significant factor driving the switch to Tesla is the substantial reduction in running costs. Compared to equivalent hybrid vehicles, the energy cost per kilometer for the Model Y is approximately half that of gasoline.
*1 Calculated as unit price (approx. ¥30/kWh 1-1) ÷ electricity efficiency (approx. 7.69km/kWh 1-2). *1 Based on Tokyo Electric Power Company's 'Juryo Dentoh B' first-tier rate. *1 -2 Calculated from Model Y RWD WLTC mode AC energy consumption rate of 130Wh/km, "130Wh/km = 0.13kWh/km" → "1 ÷ 0.13 = 7.69km/kWh". AC energy consumption rate is a value assessed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism under specified test conditions. Actual driving may vary significantly depending on the user's environment (weather, traffic congestion, etc.) and driving method (sudden acceleration, air conditioning use, etc.). WLTC mode is an international driving mode composed of city (simulating relatively low-speed driving affected by signals and traffic congestion), suburban (simulating driving less affected by signals and traffic congestion), and highway (simulating driving on highways, etc.) driving modes with average usage time distribution. *2 Calculated as unit price (approx. ¥194/L 2-1) ÷ fuel efficiency (approx. 20.3km/L 2-2). *2 -1 Refers to the national average premium gasoline price for the week of March 16, 2026, published by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. *2 -2 Set by our company based on hybrid vehicles from other brands with a similar vehicle class to the Model Y.
Eligible for CEV Subsidy of ¥1.27 Million. Actual Vehicle Burden for Model Y Starts from ¥4.317 Million.
In addition to the CEV subsidy, local government grants are also substantial. 2026 presents an excellent opportunity to purchase a Tesla at an advantageous price.
