Takarajimasha Announces "This Horror is Amazing! 2026 Edition" Featuring Top 20 Horror Novels of 2025, Releasing June 15

Takarajimasha will release "This Horror is Amazing! 2026 Edition," a ranking book of horror novels, on Monday, June 15, 2026. This book is from the editorial department of the mystery novel guidebook "This Mystery is Amazing!," which boasts a 37-year history.

"This Horror is Amazing!" surveys experts such as authors and critics to announce the top 20 horror novels published in the previous year, divided into domestic and international editions. It also includes analyses of the works and interviews with authors. It is supported as a guidebook for horror fans, book lovers, and mystery enthusiasts to discover truly interesting works.

The 2026 edition features "The Summer of the Death of Light," a youth x horror manga representing the Reiwa era, on its cover, along with an interview with the author, Mokumoku Ren. We asked about their thoughts on the work as it approaches its climax. To commemorate the 35th anniversary of its publication, the seminal J-horror work "Ring" is also featured. It includes an interview with the author, Koji Suzuki, and a timeline of "Sadako's" records. The rankings include a wide range of works, from classic horror to highly niche titles, such as "Sarugaku" (by Kōji Natsuhiko), "Selected Masterpieces of Pre-war Japanese Modern Horror: The Vampire of Babylon" (edited by Shingo Aizu), and "The Fleeting Daughter" (by Seri Watanabara). I received the news of Koji Suzuki's passing in early May. It was about three weeks after he gave me a sincere and hopeful talk, directly addressing me as an editor. I was in shock for a while, but I hope to deliver this precious interview article, which was the last one received, to our readers.
