Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Corporation
Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Corporation (President: Takayuki Kaminaka, hereinafter "TGES") has been selected for the "FY2024 Supplementary Global South Future-Oriented Co-creation and Other Projects (Large-Scale Demonstration ASEAN Member States)" [2], a project funded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry through AMEICC [1], for a demonstration project in Thailand utilizing large-scale battery energy storage systems (hereinafter "BESS") and photovoltaic power generation systems (hereinafter "PV") for decarbonization (hereinafter "this demonstration").
In this demonstration, TGES will install a total of approximately 20 MWh of BESS and approximately 20 MW of PV on the premises of multiple factories with high electricity demand. TGES will demonstrate an on-site PPA scheme [4] in Thailand using its power supply technology (hereinafter "this technology") that combines BESS and PV, for which TGES has a proven track record in Japan [3]. This demonstration will also be TGES's first overseas demonstration project utilizing this technology.
In this demonstration, surplus electricity from PV will be charged into the BESS, and discharged during nighttime and peak hours. This will improve the utilization rate of renewable energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and stabilize the power grid.
In Thailand, the effective utilization of surplus electricity and the stabilization of the power grid have become issues with the expanding adoption of PV. As the spread of Japanese industrial BESS is expected, this demonstration will be conducted with a total investment of approximately 3.7 billion yen, with initial investment burdens reduced through government support. By acquiring and verifying data on local electricity conditions, system effectiveness in hot and humid environments, equipment performance, and operating conditions, TGES aims to establish a foundation for the full-scale deployment of PPAs using Japanese industrial BESS and PV for industrial use in Thailand by reducing future costs and establishing a business model.
Under "IGNITURE" [5], TGES aims to realize sustainable and smart business operations for corporate customers through the solutions it provides. Moving forward, TGES will leverage its expertise gained through domestic and international projects to contribute to the sustainable development of customers and regions by providing various solutions that contribute to decarbonization, optimization, and resilience.
